Default K24/20 N/A CRX 300HP already - what to do more...

Hi guys,

my firend asked me to post here a question about his N/A drag CRX. Currently we are preparing to 2008 season. He wonders, what should he do with his car to make it faster / produce more HP and he needs professional answers (not kid's stupid comments)

His setup:
K20 head, K24 block
Cams Toda spec E, Toda Valvetrain, ITB Toda 50mm, Header DTR/ssr 4-2-1 2.5", Custom exhaust 3', Pistons 88 bore and 13.5CR, Rods Crower, Stock crank 99mm,
RC 550cc, Aeromotive regulator fuel, Hondata K pro, stock tranny with drag spool, MH slicks 24.5/8.5/13.
Car has 300 HP, 300 Nm, made 11.4 sec on concrete (no vht trackbite) regular CRX body with lightweight fiberglass parts.

QUESTION: What to do more to make better times/more power etc

Sleeves and bigger bore?
Is dry sump like this a good idea? http://www.adr-engineering.co....dc88f
What else?

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

enigne bay

my suggestion is to leave it alone and work with what you have, tooo many people like to change things and dont even max or get close to maxing out what they have. there are always small changes that can be made to a setup or even a driving style that will help you in the end. i say get out the fine tooth comb.

But he wants to make better ET's, he knows the car - 11.4 on concrete airport (no trackbite,no dragstrip) is really good time. But ne mods are necessery to go 10's

...is he running the 5 or six speed tranny?
...he prob. would make some more power if he does a race port and polish on the head and run bigger valves.
Running the car on race gas will help.
..and maybe ditching the ITB's for ported IM with head light scoop. and use a large TB will help in top end power. ...and of course a good tuner/driver/track bite won't hurt.

This season we will use sport gasoline
Head has been polished but bigger valves may couse problems beacuse of "agresive" valves.

That setup is more than capable of running 10s as it sits.
There are quite a few 300hp K setups running 10s in probably heavier cars as well.
Not sure if you have a regular track over there, but if traction was a problem on the concrete and you will be continuing to race on that- then what makes you think more HP is the answer?

we want to produce more beacuse we are planning to go to dragstrip which is not that far from us - in Sweden. Im pretty sure that car with this setup will make 10.8-10.9 on dragstrip right now but the score is 10.5 or better.

How about some "theories and myths" - does dry sump kit like 3 stage peterson or electric water pump help anything if we talk about HP?

your not making 300hp to the wheels with 50mm itbs, I would go to 54mm itbs. Maybe 305hp to the flywheel. Whats your MPH?

i would take dave F's advice don't worry about making more power but maximizing efficiency of what you have... I would focus on better tire combo, gearing, and suspension setups to get the car to hook better Anymore power in that CRX and it's worthless without traction

^^^second that. are there stroker cranks yet to go larger than 99mm? if not then bigger bore, methanol, and 15.1cr i would still go to that track and try to get her dialed in with good traction, you might be surprised and pull faster times than you think.

Sounds like you have very limited track time so far. Get to a real track and start making passes. Write everything down, and create a history that you can look back on. You need to make some passes and get a base so you know what you need. You need to get a MPH on the quarter
(or 1/8th, whatever) plus see what it does on a race prepped track.

The dry sump is always a good idea, it makes more power and oil pressure is constant. If you have the budget then go for it. Also the 54mm ITB or the new Kinslers are a good setup.
