CBR1100XX or RC51?
Well, I am biased (I have an XX), but that trully depends on what you like:
The XX is refined, smooth with a hard hit between 7 and 10 krpms. Acceleration-wise it will out-accelerate the RC easily. Great all around bike with a tendancy to go (very) fast. Do not expect it to handle as well as the RC though (heavier feel). With upgraded suspensions and sticky tires, it still handles very well.
the RC is more track oriented, broader powerband (easier to use) and way less comfortable.
In short they do not compare (different uses).
YMMV
Usual disclaimer: none of these bikes are beginner's bikes.

i would get the RC51, simply because it will murder the XX in the twisties and its more of a sportbike, and one more thing, there a very few around here
i dont want to get into a bench racing arugment here, but i feel that both bikes will be really close in the twisties with the same rider. The '51 is built to spec for a racing class. Its not an open-classer like the cbr954rr. The XX is not that much heavier. A typical rider on a '51 is not going to walk another typical rider just cause he's on a '51.
Actually I am not sure why you'd want to compare a '51 and a XX. They are very different bikes with very different purposes in life. The XX is the ticket on the street. Comfort, power, good handling. The '51 is great if you're a flashy track hound or a flashy rider that hangs out in parking lots. oh and be on the lookout for the new CBR1200XX.
these are just my opinions/thoughts. if yours are different, please share!

They do not compare indeed. If you go to the track go with the RC 51. Otherwise do not expect the XX to be "smoked" easily unless we are talking about the very tight stuff (where you have to pay for the long wheelbase).
CBR 1200 is due in october but I am wondering about the validity of the newer design (at least what we know of it).
