Default VSS and VTEC engagement

I'm almost finished with a B18C (JDM) swap in my 2nd gen CRX SI. I have heard that VTEC won't engage if the VSS is not working. I have converted to OBD1 via the Rywire subharness with a P72 ECU.

The B18C came with the electronic VSS and my cluster is cable operated. I was thinking about swapping a GSR cluster, but I decided to keep the stock cluster. I am going to take out the electronic VSS from the B18C and put the mechanical VSS from my d16a6. If everything ends up working, will VTEC work? Also, are there any precautions I should take when swapping VSS's or is it simply remove and replace?

TIA

Im not sure if it will all work, but i can tell you that there are noprecautions changing it out. I changed mine on my B16 a few weeks ago and it took all of 10 minutes. heres nothing to it. Good luck
