Default jdm climate control

I searched for 'jdm climate control' it gave results but not what i wanted to know

so USDM climate control is mechanically controlled while JDM is electronically controlled.

What makes it so difficult to just get all the parts for the JDM climate control system and install them in a USDM civic, just because the fact that the JDM cars are RHD and the parts wont fit right in LHD ? If anyone knows of where like a working write up on how to install it is(even in a RHD) i'd love to see it. I'm not doing it, im just interested. I like to learn things lol.

TIA

no i've seen that video, i mean like is it possible to swap it so that it is still controlled electronically instead of mechanically, like is the reason people dont do it because the parts are only going to fit RHD ?

True, such as the heater core/blower. Plus you'll need all the wiring and sensors.

Wow, it's funny you bring this up. I've been looking over the possibility of doing this over the last couple of days (since I'm currently restoring my hatch), and many of the plugs and wiring from the RHD harness match up. All I've heard over the years is people saying "no, just swap the cover to the cc and the bulbs and fake it", but I want a real answer too. Of course I'm missing some of the parts like the 2 sensors/vents on the dash and the heater unit. Elaborating on what BlueIntegraBoy said, from the looks of it, the most difficult part seems to be the mechanical conversion on the heater core. The blower seems to actually be easy to convert since the motor is powered exactly the same way, there is just a different resistor plug that can be either modified or sourced from the RHD blower. I'd like to see pics or get my hands on the rest of these to see if its feasible. I'm sure it is...it just may need some fabbing and rewiring.

I'll see if I can take a few shots of my stuff to illustrate what I mean.

Ok, so I've been seriously thinking about this over the past few days and decided to show what I know so far (which may differ greatly until I can get my hands on the missing parts). I've had these in storage for over 3 years and never bothered to look at them. I believe it is possible to get it running, it's just more complicated than your average conversion.

I took pictures of nearly everything of interest, so hopefully the sizing and resolution are appropriate...

USDM LHD harness:

The 2 motor assemblies (1 for the blower and the other for the side of the heater housing) are not shown. One connects to the small green plug on the right, and the grey plug 3rd from left. They are shown installed on each unit a little later.

JDM RHD harness:

You can see all 3 motor assemblies still attached here. The extra 3rd motor is seen near the bottom middle. You can easily identify it by its size.

The thing to remember about these JDM parts are that every bracket and their motors are mounted on the exact inverse or mirror image of the USDM LHD. This means that you cannot use them for the conversion due to it mounting incorrectly and the motor moving in the wrong direction.

One nice thing is that the JDM harness connects to the same 2 plugs. It originates on both the grey and a brown plug shown on this next picture. Another nice thing is that the pinouts on the plugs are all the same, but have an additional 2 wires on the gray plug (solid brown and solid pink) that are added to power the additional components. Keeping this in mind, I'm flipping the RHD harness and showing you each difference, right to left...

1st- Extra 4 prong relay in my hand. Not found on USDM

USDM harness:

2nd- The plug and resistor housed on blower is different. JDM is a 3 wire, USDM is a 4 wire.

USDM 4-wire:

This is the location of the resistor on the USDM blower:

3rd- 3 wire A/C thermo switch vs. USDM 2 wire.

USDM 2-wire:

4th- Next is the extra wiring for the motor that mounts on the bottom of the heater assembly.

5th- This is the motor the 2 plugs connect to. It's for the unit that replaces the mechanical lever system under the heater assembly.

Bottom of the heater assembly where it's supposed to go...

6th- This is the end of the harness where both the climate control unit and the dash temperature sensors go. The wide, dark gray plugs both connect to the back of the JDM climate control unit and the small 2-pin light gray plug (next to my thumb is for the sensors). Unfortunately, I don't have these.

Back of the JDM climate control unit.

This is the end of the USDM wiring harness and its plugs:

The back of the USDM climate control unit:

What is really interesting is that the 2 motors that are the same in both harnesses actually share the same pinouts. Technically, you can reuse these brackets and the motors out of the USDM model if converted properly. The problem with that is that you have motors that are rated at different resistance levels. For example, the JDM blower motor shown here...

...is rated at 12 volt, 12 megohm. The USDM is 12 volt, 4 megohm.

Here is also an example of the difference in mounting position:

So what else needs to be done?

1- We need pictures of the ENTIRE bottom part of the JDM heater unit with the 3rd motor attached and removed.
2- Pictures of the 3 pin resistor mounted on the blower assembly
3- Pictures of the dash sensors removed from the JDM dash
4- Someone to either trace or provide a circuit diagram for the additional 2 wires (brown and pink) on the 10-pin gray plug.

***I would be willing to work on this if anyone can help me get my hands on these parts for a reasonable price. Also, if anyone can provide insight/experience on this, please chime in.***

I am going to take apart the motors to inspect them...

Yeah, I searched like crazy...most results state the obvious, but don't break down the differences visually. I also heard there is an exterior sensor for ambient temperature which could explain the two extra wires on the 10-pin gray plug.
