ok im going to turbo my dc2 soon and i have a 00 gsr motor with blox intake manifold, motor is basically stock, my Q is, if its better to keep stock gsr cams when going turbo or type r's? im wondering if id gain more power or if its even better with type r cams? i searched but noting much that im asking, i want people with experience not i herad this or that, so let me know, and why i ask this is cuz my bros si b16, he had type r cams and it was turboed, and the tuner said stock cams wudve made more power than the type r's, i have gsr 1.8 so wud i be fine with type r cams into my gsr turbo? thanks and no flammers Merry Christmas

For the stock engine, and the power that you could acheive from that, the stock cams work fine. THer are other threads abotu Skunk 2 pro1s vs Type R cams, but unless you're trying to go for some serious power in the mid-to-upper band, stick with the GS-Rs, and concentrate on your tuning more than anything else. Yes, I've had plenty of experience with all 3 cams, and If I were in your particular position, stick with the stock cams and work on other areas of the system.

but why shud i stick with stock cams?? you guys say i shud spend the money for tuning, but you guys act like im broke or something, moneys not the issue, i want to know if they wud help or ruin me on the dyno, shud i stick with gsr cams or make more hp by just slapping the type r's in? thanks and the reason im asking all these questions is cuz as i said my bro had a 99 si turbo stock motor, besides the type r cams and when he got it tuned he made low numbers, tuner said if he ran stock or gsr cams he wud make more power, but in my case im 1.8 my bro was 1.6 so thats why im asking if id be ok and make power on the dyno or will i still make good hp numbers with stock cams?
btw im looking for like 200-300hp on stock block

If money isn't the issue, then get a set of ITRs or S2 Pro1's. Just remember that 95% of the people who ask questions like this can hardly afford their setups, yet still feel like they need to buy unnecessary parts when the money could be better spent elsewhere.
i made 300+whp on two different bone stock gsr motors... no need for the cams.... and with some turbo manifolds the gsr cams will make better power... better flowing manifolds will see gains with the itr's
i think the gsr cams are a more smooth engaugement from N.A. to boost on!! type-r cams are slow at spoolin the turbo on a mild throttle increase!!
but the typer's are for a all out race set up not really a street thing like the gsr cams!! type-r's are better on high boost levels like 15+psi!! gsr great for street set-up under 12psi of boost!! please correct me if im wrong!! just what i felt on my ls vtec motor

There is no reason to run R cams with those goals, stick with the stock GSR's and use the money else where. Also if you want comparisons you can check out my sig, in red...

thanks guys looks like i will stick with stock cams and get a very good tune, thanks
Schister66 wrote exactly what I was about to put, I ran stock gsr cams in my ls-vtec turbo motor up until I decided to go for more power (500-600 range) which is when we threw in an ITR intake cam. (itr intake cam with gsr exhaust showed same power as running both ITR cams)
