I was listening to the Car and Driver podcast a while ago and they were talking about this alarm system for you car that not only had GPS, but speed limiter, so if someone were to get in your car and take it for a spin they couldn't go no faster then a specified m.p.h., you could look at your vehicle via satalite through their site, heat sensors so if someone trys to flatbed you car the alarm will sense it and a text will come to your phone or pager and a whole bunch of ish. I was listening to the name of for the site it sounded like hosgps.com, but that didn't work so I'm wondering if anyone of you heard of this system?
i don't think its an alarm system...
its more of a black box with a GPS receiver and a cellular connection.. that is completely wired into the car...
those things require a subscription... and the install is quite complicated..
if you have the money.... why not...
they mostly require professional installation, and you would need to find a dealer near you...
imo, tracking is a last resort... the first step is to deter the car from moving in the first place.
i used to work a dealership, where they sold this (something)guard~ish thing... it was basically gps tracking...i forget what it was callled... cause i thought it was useless
other than finding out where your car is if it was stolen... the only other use for gps tracking - for personal use - is to prove that you were traveling at a certain speed at a certain time in a certain place... which could be useful for tickets, accidents, etc...
