Default type R cams

current motor, b18c1

i was thinking about getting some type R cams from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

questions are,
1) anyone recomend getting ebay brand cams
2) is it mandatory to tune the ecu even though the cams are just slightly bigger?
3) i know this is a noobish questions, but i figured since its probably a common mod, anyone know how much HP increase will i get from these cams?

TIA

I dont know about getting off ebay, if its was for some skunk2's or something with a brand name maybe. But it would be easier for them to cheat you on getting cams from a type r or other honda on ebay. Look around for some itr (usdm typr r) or ctr (japan type r) cams here on h-t ,or possibly ebay, but on ebay i would type in itr or ctr, not just type r. As for hp gains i would imagine somewhere near that of a type r, however type r heads are somewhat ported oem, and ctr cams will have a hair more hp than itr. I think you would be in the neighborhood of a type-r. Type-r ecu have a little different fuel tables than other b-esries, so idk if it would be mandatory, but if you want the full potential of the cams + your car, get it tuned

thanks, im running a chiped p30 ecu, so i might have to start saving up for hondata because i dont trust crome. btw, is s200 overkill, or will s100 work for cam tunning?
ill start looking around for some itr's in the H-T marketplace

S100 would be perfectly fine, however as long as you have a 5spd. which im sure you do. Crome is perfectly safe, its what i am going to use. Also if your getting a shop to tune for you, crome might just be cheaper too, but S100 would do you fine as well.

i would use crome, but i dont know anyone who would tune it for me, and the nearest performance shop is like 40 miles away. dont you need little roms or whatever to tune it with crome? i dont know where to get those, and would my ecu is already chiped with this ebay chip (waste of money btw) so would that affect it any?

well 40 miles isnt really that bad to get a good tune, if you already chipped then all you need is this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...photo, sst based chips, and they should be able to do the rest. If they're a tuning shop they probably already have them, but still here they are.

Well crome pro is $130 (which they would get instead of you [although you can] since they're tuning it) and hondata s100 is around $195, and the price of tuning probably wouldnt change to tune either system, although they'de probably charge you for the chip on cromes end (5 bucks maybe, lol) and installation on hondatas side (more than $5), hope that comparison helps you.

my brother said he would help me buy s200 if i paid for like 3/4's of it since you can just re-use it by hooking it up to the ecu. im still debating on which to get. thanks for all your help. if i do anything, ill probably give the ebay itr cams a try, and ill see if i can go the shop and see when and if they can tune it, and how much etc.

thanks again.
