Weekend Warriors Take On The Professional Drivers In Head-To-Head Showdown At Las Vegas Motor Speedway
January 12 & 13
LAS VEGAS, NV (Friday, November 30, 2007) -- The first-ever Fast Times Ultimate Challenge, a one-of-a-kind racing challenge designed for motorcycle riders, road racers, drifters or karters to compete head-to-head on a even playing field, is set for January 12-13, 2008 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Certified Talent, LLC announced today. Entrants are invited to compete in one or both courses; registration is open.
Fast Times, a two-track event designed by industry professionals with new and unique timing and scoring systems, is set to level the playing field between all motor driven vehicles in a highly competitive closed-course environment. The courses will test the competitor’s skills in drifting and stunting, reaction time, consistency and control. "it's about the driver, not the car, We wanted to create a event where competitors go to find out how good they really are." said Shane Donley " A event that combines Drifting with drag racing and stunting in a way never done before. A way that we can all compete in equally, no matter what we drive or ride"
“The time is right for an event where the weekend warrior can run head-to-head with a factory supported driver and take home cash,” said technical consultant Jon Capps. “The goal is to give an opportunity for anyone to come out and run against the big boys with a shot at putting them on the trailer.”
The objective points system allows anyone with skill to compete on an even playing field. For the Battle Royale track a stock VW. has the same odds as a race prepped Radical race car. It is not about horsepower, grip or braking: competitors pick the time and run it and the drag tree will sort out the start to assure whoever runs closest to their dial in time will win the race. On the Mad Skills course any racer is eligible.
THE TRACKS
Battle Royale: The ultimate head-to-head showdown where reaction time, precision and consistency are tested on side-by-side mirrored tracks. Competitors estimate their run time and line up at the drag tree. Cut a clean light, navigate the slalom with precision and test car control on our unique decreasing-radius esses, complete with FIA inspired curbing. After two more street circuit style 90 degree corners, racers stare down their competition in a run for the finish to see who gets closer to their dial in Estimated Time.
After completing the course, participants receive a breakdown of four split times from our custom timing system. The point total is based on reaction time at the start, how well and which line is executed in the slalom, and how close racers come to hitting their dial in time. But there’s more … bonus points are allotted for clean runs and winning the race.
Mad Skills Challenge: A drifting course designed to test the limits of competitors car control, this six-element challenge is won on a simple scoring system, not the traditional objective judging panel. A three-barrel slalom opens the course and leads into a dual radius figure-eight. You must then transition into “The Roundabout!”. This is an exercise that tests precision car placement, requiring drifters to put the front bumper on the inner cone radius while staying inside the outer cone perimeter. After sliding out of the roundabout you must complete a 90-degree slide to a stop box the size of a parking spot for extra bonus points. The next segment requires competitors to negotiate the final three slalom barrels doing opposite direction donuts around them. It all ends with the final challenge: a 180-degree slide into the parking spot for your final bonus points.
With Fast Times unique points and scoring systems focusing on driver’s skills and ability, the playing field has been leveled and anyone can show up to the Fast Times Ultimate Challenge in any vehicle and win.

Well yes, drifting and stunting. There are elements on the Mad Skills course that are one thing for cars and another for bikes. For example a bike won't be required to do an inline 180, there will be another element for the bikes. Its not a drifting event in that its not a judged event, its a series of elements to demonstrate car/bike control skill.
