average oil consumption for a 2000 EM1
last oil change was 3k ago. checked dipstick this morning and oil levels are below the last marker. had to put in almost 2 liters to top it off.
I run Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic.
any ideas?
is this average for a B16A2 at this age or is this considered excessive?
I guess it can depend on your driving habit. I have a 2000 si, and mine barely burns much oil at all..
Do you bring it to redline and get into vtec often? More oil is consumed in vtec, so that can be why you are burning that much oil.
Although the level going down to the "low" level on the dipstick after 3 months does sound rather high to me.
Any blue smoke from your exhaust?

That's about what I use, a little less. But my rings are shot.

oh hell. my 2000 si just spun a bearing with 115k. after i bought it i realized it used 1qt a month. yeah i drive it hard, but 1qt a month is awful. finally it died, even keeping it full of oil. somebody abused my motor before i got it, it finally choked.
Well i think the fact that you had to in fact add that much means your losing it but burning maybe not, could just be a leak. A compression test can help determine if are able to burn oil but i cant say for sure (how many miles on motor? If high could be valve seals also, if your burning and not leaking it that is).

My old z6 had 195k on it, and it didn't go thru but a half quart in between oil changes, and I raped it almost everyday.

I had a brand new forged motor built for boost, and it burned more oil than any motor i've ever had or worked on, with 2k miles on it.
I would just do a compression check to see if it's the rings or not. Then go from there.

O, lol, sorry bout that. Yea, I gave that thing hell almost everyday, well, what hell it had to offer anyway, ha ha ha.
It was still kickin strong when I pulled it out to put the turbo motor in, ha ha.
