Default Did I spin a bearing? Rod Knock? Video w/ sound

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYnZ5RNjLuE

I had this sound about 6 months ago on a stock 94 GSR. I changed the oil and the sound went away for about 4 months. Recently, the sound came back.

Idle is perfect. Runs perfect. No CELs.

I never over-revved. I was, however, a little low on oil. Maybe a quart low.

Does rod knock come and go? Or should the sounds always be present?

Thanks.

English?

How do you know oil isn't getting to the head?

GSR's are known for walking crank bearings, that may be it. You also said the car has been sitting, have you had a valve/lash adjustment?

Valve adjustment was done after the knocking started. Car ran perfect.

Also, I did an oil change after I heard the the knocking and the sound went away for about 4 months. Now it's back.

A bearing might be starting to go. The oil could be losing viscosity or something, and not filling the gap as it was before? Just a try. If you have the time and tools are easily in hand, as well as another car, rip off the oil pan and see if anything looks irregular.

Have you tried a magnetic drain plug?

Easy way to check a rod knock, start the car and with it running pull one spark plug wire at a time, if the noise goes away and comes back when you reconnect the wire its a rod knock. If it never goes away adjust the valves. Im pretty sure it .6 on the intake and.8 on the exaust

check the dough nut gasket at the cat flange. The gasket on my car was shot and sounded like that. I also thought is was rod knock until I stuck my head behind the motor with the hood up to listen.

listen to my video.

with knock, you will have a CEL and your car will be in limp mode. My car was smoking black at idle. Luckily a new block fixed it.

best advice ive seen on this page

if it is rod knock, do not run or drive the car as it may be able to be fixed with out too much damage

If you have the old oil filter still around cut it open and look for metal flakes.

Why does your knocking sound go away after startup?

I get no CELs, no smoking either.

i think that's the knock sensor kicking in and retarding the timing or something. don't quote me on that.

No, it would not come on because of a spun bearing.
