B16A with CTR pistons
I'm rebuilding a B16 motor and my customer sent the block to the machine shop to get milled and bored 82mm. When I assembled the pistons and rods I noticed the piston was popping out of the block a little bit. We sent the head to port and polish and I disassembled everything on the head, when I got the head back I noticed the lifters were discharged. When we tried to start the car, it sounded like loud knocking. I havent taken the head off yet but all I can think of is the piston knocking on the head. I was also wondering if when the lifters are discharged like that, do they knock or make a loud noise?? Whats the most you can mill a b16 block with CTR pistons.
WOW someone didnt do there homework, sounds like you just threw it toghether and hoped for the best. If a piston is sticking out far enough to make you think twice why put it together and try to start it.
I had a B16 , B17 , B18C1 (B16head) built with CTR pistons , they all worked great. I had Type R , Toda B , M22's , Blueprint stg.2 and Blox HSL cams . The best from the B16 was 173whp , B17 179whp , B18C1 193whp . I put the B18C1 in my gf's Integra and built a B20 vtec for my EG that has M24 cams making 230whp
these were all tuned by myself with Uberdata , so I am sure there would have been some more in these if more tunning was done.
the B16 was at 81.50mm and worked awsome with the CTR's i think it had 255psi compression

He obviously used 82mm oversized pistons. CTR pistons also tend to stick slightly out of the deck on b16a's.
OP- You should always check your clearances if you're in doubt. Were you able to adjust the valves to spec before you put the head on/ran the engine?

diff comp. height of the CTR piston leaves it popping out of the hole .006-.008 on a standard deck height b16 block.
However if you really installed 81mm pistons in an 82mm bore, the noise you are hearing isnt your valvetrain, its your .040 piston to wall clearance.
Merry Xmas
