just wanted to know. maybe a BMX style bike? its probably not worth it becuase a used haro frame with a 3 pieace crank goes for like 50 bucks haha

 

I would just pick up a frame and piece everything together...Or you can make your own bike frame...

After seeing these 2 bikes, I've wanted to build my own (however, I dont weld or have any fab tools).

It'd be pretty awesome, just use parts from an existing junk bike.

good idea....except for maybe MILD becuase ive never done titaniaum, don't even know where to get it LOL

this wouldnt work. titanium has too much flex for a bmx style frame. if you copied a 4130 cr-mo frame, the tubing diamters are designed with 4130 in mind. not ti.

if you want to build your own bmx frame you need to:

1. find an existing frame that you like to use the GEOMETRY. i.e. headtube angle, seat tube angle, top tube length. if youre a normal sized guy, youre goign to want to go with about a 21.5inch top tube, and a 74 degree head tube angle with about a 14-16in chainstay length.

2. once you have all your geometry dialed in, you need to search for, or make your own jig.

3. youll then need a ton of different tubing diamters. could get away with the same for the seat stay and chain stay, then youll need a bottom bracket, and a down tube, a top tube and a steer tube/head tube.

then youll need some stamped material to cut your rear drop outs from.


after all that, itll need to be under 5lbs, or it will just be a conversatioin piece.

It will probably be tough staying under 5lbs.
I'd only bother building a bike if it were for something like the ones I posted above.

 

I'm looking at building a bike frame in the near future also.

But a fixed gear, sort of a touring frame with no gears or hand brakes.

It will be brazed though, for nostalgic purposes.

Probably not what you're looking to build, but hey it's a bike right.

Titanium is a horrible thing to make a bmx frame out of. Chromo or bust. Literally. Titanium is too rigid and will crack easily under flexing, and twisting. Unless you are a "racer" Or just want to be one of those guys who brags about how light his bike is all the time.

 

making a decent bmx bike is no easy feat, one you have to have a good jig to ensure that the frame comes out straight, depending on what you ride repends on the geometry of the bike. i ride flatland so my bike is 18.5 tt 12.5 chain stay and 75.5 head tube and like a 70 seat tube, for street between 20-21 tt depending on height and 13-14 chain stay, the chain stay length plays a huge part in how the bike manuals the shorter it is the quicker the front comes up but the more unstable. a trials bike would run like a 23 tt with a 12 chain stay. even after you make the frame the chromoly needs to be heat treated. titanium is a expensive waste of time, you can get extream light weight frames from chromo. i have never built a frame but i have researched it alot because i used to own a bike company and made alot of parts and worked at the number one bike shop in the north east. i would recomend that you try building some bars first and make diffrent proto types try making them strong but light and try diffrent styles.
