May get 2001 Civic EX - 150,000miles...anything specific to look for ? >
Hi guys...
Im looking at getting an 2001 Civic EX coupe...its in good shape, but the mileage is pretty high at 150,000 miles...I guess thats pretty high, but the car seems to be well maintained, was highway driven, and feels tight...
The mechanic check is next week...is there anything I should lookout for...the car wasnt modded or anything, but are there issues to be aware of associated with these cars ?
(I plan to change the timingbelt/water pump right away...)
Many thanks !

at that milage you wont have to worry about your engine running out on you.. i'd say look at your suspension.. maybe some aftermarket upgrades
mine just hit 92222 last night, and it's probably in the same boat as yours. I HIGHLY suggest the timing kit like you said, along with sparks, aftermarket suspension, battery check, window regulator check, fuel door cable check, and if it's 5speed, DEFINITELY Input Shaft Bearings and Throwout Bearings checked ASAP. These are your most typical replacements and most common issues known with these 7th gens.
I hope this helps you a lot. oh, also don't forget the headlight assemblies cuz you did mention it being highway and all, probably bugs splatted and all that highway "gunk" make sure it isn't yellowing.
I tell you honestly, I thought I got a pretty good deal on my 2001 Civic EX 5spd. Appears I'm doing about $700 in parts (servicing myself) over a 6 month period since Ive had this suckerr!!. Still profiting $2400 if i sell it after the fixes
. so make sure you know what you're getting into and if you can fix it or not!! I know I can trust honda-tech.com for some of these common fixes

Thanks for the advice and mentioning the Input Shaft Bearings and Throwout Bearings, I didnt know about those...
After the mechanics inspection I will see if anything really serious turns up and offer something which accounts for the extra work I may have to do...Merry Christmas !!!

Yes, the engine dying is a concern for sure...if I can get it for a few thousand dollars and run it up to 180,000miles (about two more years of use) I think that would be good...regardless it looks like a really fun car to own and drive...
