Default Quick ? on Trunk Leak

Im having trouble with leaking in my trunk. Luckly I have found the source of the leak and was wondering what I could do about it. Its an 02 RSX and where the water runs down the sides of the back windo and out, well it runs into a gap where the tail lights and body is. Its runing into that gap and down into my trunk. I pulled all my interior lining for the trunk out and for now I have put tape to block it but it only last so long that way. I was wondering what sealant I could use or what I should do about the situation. I do live in WA which it probably rains 364 days of the year. Thanks to everyone for the help in advance.

Yeah at one point there was 2 inches of water where my spare tire is. And yes the back window fogs up like no other.

Yeah check it out. and let me know. If its not raining its easy just to spray it with the hose and open up your trunk and just watch, mine is not slow it just rushes down.

But that doesnt take care of the moisture. Every morning I go outside and my windows are fogged up bad. Plus I dont think having water in your car all the time can be good?

I'm having the same problem, though I haven't run a hose in the channels to see where it leaks into the trunk. If it's leaking in a gap maybe some outdoor caulking designed for houses would work?

I need to look at this more closely this weekend.

have you replaced this gasket yet? I was looking at the Helms manual and it says you have to take the rear bumper off to get the tail light assembly out. Not too difficult, but not a 10 minute job either.

Sounds like this spare tire leak is pretty common. I have the same thing, no salvage car or anything, is there a fix to this or a service bulletin on it? Seems like there should be with this many people having the same problem. It was about a Tblspoon worth of water and I figured it have to be coming from underneath since nothing was wet at anytime above the spare tire. However, I don't have the Rr window fogging up problem or the taillight condensation problem either. Since the sub is in the middle of the spare, has anyone had any problems with it shorting out or any other electrical problems from this?

I got about 1/2 gallon of water out of the spare tire well yesterday with the wet vac. There was water in the spare tire rim. While the sub wasn't "Wet" it was plenty damp with condensation. With some investigative work with a garden hose, it looked like water was coming in where a bunch of wires clip to the inside of the trunk with a little plastic snap in thingy. I used some outdoor caulk around the snap in thingy, and inside the hole where it snaps in.

It rained last night and no water in the trunk this AM. However, I'm not sure if that water should be in the vicinity of that plastic clip and I'm now diverting it elsewhere.

So I found out that there was a seal that was broke inside my tail lights that was alowing the water to run down into my trunk... I looked on CRSX and they have a post about this. I took one of their advise and just did a window sealer around the edge of the tail lights to the body and no leaking since. Now instead of going throught the light and out the bottome it goes around or over the light and out...worked out pretty good for me and a easy 3$ fix!

You were getting heavy fogging in the Rr window and condensation in your taillights right? I don't have any of that, but I guess it couldn't hurt to seal it anyways. For $3, it's probably worth it.

Yeah i was getting bad condisation in the R window but not tail lights.
Well if thats not where your leak is then I wouldnt do it just because if you need your lights off for some reason then it will be a pain. But thats what worked for my leak...

The water was coming in where the plastic clip that holds the wires attaches to the metal. The clip is located to the right of the big bolt in the opened up area. The gasket is the foam black stuff behind the metal. There's a cutout in the foam where the plastic plug fits into the metal. I squirted calk into that hole. Then pushed the clip in and calked around the outside of the clip/metal.

Close up. Not the prettiest work.

My car had the same problem. Took it to acura when it was still under warranty. Acura put a new tail light gasket on, and that fixed the problem.
