Default were to shave weight

okay so I have a 99 ex coupe I'm trying to find were I can shave some weight off without hurtiing the dd status. First question:

I have drum brakes in rear and the discs lighter?

the tag in the door says it weights 3200lbs since the heaviest car I have had is 2200 I thin that the coupe is pretty heavy.

Disks are going to be heavier. You could get a Carbon Trunk and Hood, Rear Lower Control arms not much lighter but they are, that would really be it cause u want it a DD or Ac and PS could be removed also

Your car does not weight 3200 lbs. That's closer to the weight of a Firebird. 3200 lbs is how much your car should ever weight TOTAL. That's including the car, you, other passengers and whatever crap you might have in the car. Your car weighs 2513 lbs stock.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by yoffer &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

That's a really broad spec list. That's closer to the weight of a DX or HX.

Here's more info:

OP, why do you want to lose weight on a daily driver? You are going to sacrifice comfort (and car value) for a little lost weight.

Go on a diet.

Scrapping weight on anything buy a race car is for people who haven't done it before.

lose weight from your belly. crunches and running will do the trick.

I like the lose weight theory but since I'm 6'0" and only weight 145lbs I think I'm good. I already removed the ac I like the ps just for dd I'm gettin another 99 for free from a co-worker (son blew the motor). I will probably turn that into my track car but I just wanted to sell where I could shave some weight.

Lose the spoiler cuz I know the ex comes with one. Take out the spare tire and jack. The seats in civics are pretty light so I wouldn't worry bout them. Carbon fiber hood and trunk lid can help. Throw some si wheels on it instead of the 17's like I have on mine that weigh a ton.

Definitely a no-go on that one IMO.

The general rule of thumb is for every 100lbs. removed, you'll lose 1/10th of a second off of your 1/4 mile ET. Now, assuming you remove the sound deadening material and the firewall mat...that's 15lbs. (according to the thread that somebody posted in a link). So after AAAAAALLLLLLL of that work, you're not even going to cut off 1/10th of a second...

Now, is it worth it?

The spoiler is optional on ALL Civic trims besides the hatchbacks. For the hatches they get the optional mid-wing though. And the spoiler might be three pounds, but I'll say five pounds tops.

And Si wheels are pretty heavy. If you want a lightweight stock wheel, look into shaving the calipers and put some HX wheels on. There are other aftermarket wheels that would be a lot lighter though.

Taking out the spare tire and jack is never a good idea.

I'm here to give out the correct information. If that includes correcting the wrong things you say, then so be it.

Are you here to help the OP or to cry about it every time someone points out (politely even) that you were wrong?

PS - That means the OP might not even have a spoiler.

you can remove AC, AC fan and everything that has to do with your AC... invest in a racing radiator or just a smaller one at that, and your rear seats, unless your driving your friends around everyday...

seriously, you don't need your daily driver to be really light. The sacrifices seem pointless to me. Do you ever need your rear seats and anything behind you. That's probably going to be your most easily attainable yet somewhat reasonable weight saver.

It's your dd....
