How many and what color main bearings do I need for rebuilding the R?
I heard main bearings are on back order, I'm planning on purchasing these ASAP or in advance to start my build up. So can anyone tell me what main bearings do I need. I will be using stock ITR rods and CTR pistons. Thank you
You need to read the codes (numbers) on your rods, crank, and block, and then reference the bearing charts in the helms. That will tell you what number to start with. Then you can plastigauge it to see if you need to bump up a size...
Or maybe a more seasoned honda builder can tell you what size up you may need to goto if you tell them the amount of miles and the stock bearing colors....

You won't know the color unless you take a look @ what is in your motor right now. They are different. As for how many I'm not sure.
I know that Black colored bearings are on back-order (not sure about the other colors), but keep in mind they are the thickest...you may not need these. As stated above, check your block & crank bearing codes first to determine the colors you require & then worry about the back-order if it applies. Good Luck!
you will need top and bottom halves for your four rods, and your (5?) crank points. it's five or six - can't recall right now. when mike k worked at naples it cost like 170 or so for all new bearings....
