Default ITR EG problem....

I recently did a 98 spec itr swap in my 95 cx. Everything went smoothly except for one thing. It turns out I have a bad tranny! Well the problem is this... My first gear is on third gear slot, my second is on the fourth gear slot, etc. I don't have a reverse or fifth gear. Cause these are third and fourh! Sound crazy but it's true. My itr is now a four speed!! I tried different shift linkages but it's still the same. What could be the problem!? I can still drive it around town, but I can't go into fifth and I can't go into reverse. (I have to push out of parking spots) HELP!!!

ok, do you know how the tranny has the rod that comes out and connects to the shift linkage? well it rocks to left (1st, 2nd) rocks to the right (5th, reverse) and has a middle point (3rd, 4th), it sounds like the the tranny rod was to the left and the car shifter was in neutral (hence 1st in tranny being 3rd in car), but i dont know if thats even possible b/c of the pin in the shift linkage that everyone knows is a pain to get out.

I've searched everywhere on Honda tech for answers. Couldn't find anything. This shop I went to said that it maybe the shift fork or the gear selector. I plan on taking out the tranny sometime this week. How hard is it to pull out the tranny? I don't have access to a tranny jack. Could I do it with just a regular jack? I really appreciate all the input you guys! Just trying to get this beast on the road!

yeah you can do it with a regular jack. sounds like you might have the wrong linkage or something inside is expletiveed.

I don't think it a the linkage cause we already changed it to another one. So it's not that. The tranny seems so complicated if I were to take it apart.

Dont take the trans apart if you dont know what you're doing.

Are you sure that the pin for the shift linkage is the correct size? It needs to be a VERY tight fit inside that hole. Otherwise, there will be a lot of slop, resulting in your losing some gears. The same situation happened to a friend of mine that thought he could use a slightly undersized bolt.

Are any of the linkage mounting points bent? Are all bushings present? What shifter are you using?

If you're using a D series shifter on a B series linkage, there will be a gap between the shifter itself and the linkage. The linkage parts need to all be tight. There really isn't room for slop. Not so tight that the gear selector wont move....but tight.

-What shifter are you using?
-What linkage are you using?
-Are you using the correct sized "bitch pin"?
-Is the hole for the "bitch pin" elongated?
-all bushings present?
-all bushings in good working order?
-are the linkage mounting points in good shape?
-Is the linkage on the right way?

well the first time I put on the linkage, it was from an itr. Then when I noticed that it was all bent. I used one from a integra. Same problem. I used the spring pin that is suppost to go into the linkage.

Integra shift linkage should work, that's what I've used for six years. This is a weird problem.

I'm thinking that maybe it has to do with the actual shift rod inside the tranny. I figured that if it was the shift fork, I wouldn't be able to drive it around.

So it might be a bent shift fork? Which fork could it be? I know there are 3 different forks in there. Or could it be something else....

What SHIFTER are you using? If you're using a D series SHIFTER on a B series shift linkage, you will have to use a big washer. The D series linkage attachment is much narrower than the B series. The B series attachment point from Shifter to shift linkage is a little offset. Try using a B series shifter.

I was using the itr shifter and linkage. But that one was bent out of shape. So I replaced it with a integra shifter and linkage.

u can very easily take the trans out with a regular jack, sounds to me like u may have the opp. to have the trans built a lil bit while its apart. from the sounds of it that is really the last thing, the linkage and everything sounds rite unless i m missing somthin

would the reverse idler gear bolt have to do with any of this? It's the bolt that sits right next to the tranny mount. I took it out before I swapped in the motor. I lost that bolt, I tried putting something similar in and it was kind of weird putting it in. When I put it in and started it up, it started for a second and it shut off. When I loosened it, It started normally. Hope I didn't *** things up trying to put that bolt in.

Like I said, would it be the solution to my problem?
