Default Best Turbo Kit for the Integra...

Hey everyone, this is my very first post on this site- so please be a little understanding and easy on me I just recently decided to get an 94-99 Integra after a long period of researching and looking into turbo DSMs- which have WAY too much baggage to invest thousands of dollars into (IMHO). I definitely want to go turbo with this car and it isn't gonna be my daily driver. I have plans to rebuild the bottom end by next spring to turn up the boost, but until then I want to get the most hp possible to have some fun for this summer. I've read that the LS engines are more responsive to turbos than the GSRs, and I think I'll be able to run more boost on the stock internals with the LS (b/c of CR). But I still haven't been able to find which turbo kit is the best for these cars. Please let me know what you think...thanks for any help you can give.

Welcome to Honda-Tech, the best source on the internet for Honda-Acura info ! (And a great place to get flamed !

Asking this type of question can get you flamed in some circles (waaaay to general/broad)

Turbos can be either complicated or simple, depending on who will do the work and how fast you want to go. Eg: ANY turbo kit, no matter how small the turbo, can blow your engine by the time you get to the corner gas station. So do your research... lots of research. The HT Forced Induction forum has the BEST info.

Firstly, LS motors are commonly 'claimed' to be better for turbo is because they come with lower compression pistons stock, longer gearing on the tranny, no vtec x/o to interrupt power production and a small increase in displacement (93cc) compared to the other b18's. (beneficial to low end spool time). Some might also go so far as to say vtec is bad for turbo.... riiiight....
The other B series motors may not have the slightly increased low end tq, but they are not lacking and far make up for it in vtec. Overall, any B series responds well to turboing.

As far as particular turbo kits, it depends on how fast you want to be... if you go with a greddy kit, it come with injectors and a smaller Td-025 turbo (i think that's the mod #) While this turbo can create a good amount of power, it will run into limitations and you will need to run higher boost levels to attain the same power levels of a larger turbo. But the kit is excellent quality and fit/finish.

Then there is the ever popular Drag III, which I believe comes with a good manifold and a t3/t04 in various trims, this is quite a large turbo and is capable of creating more power than you can prolly handle with some 'built' bottom ends.

Do research and frequent the FI forum (and get flamed some.... it helps ) I would also highly recommend you research fuel/ engine management systems... if you go turbo you will need some form of fuel/spark/engine management or you will blow up your motor.

Revhard stage 2.

You can boost small or big.

There is no "best" - just find a kit that comes with the stuff that you want. You still need to get some other things though.

I got Revhard stage two. Added a couple of gauges, boost controller, turbo timer and wha-lah. Daily driven turbo.

What kind of driving do you do? or racing?

mad power = larger turbo more lag (if you can call it that)
less potential but more responsive.. smaller turbo (less lag)

Drag kit is most of what people here run... some revhard and thats it....

It's kinda like shoving a square peg in a round hole.. you just have to find one peg that fits in the whole you want... and decide on how much of a hammer you need.

first off....welcome to h-t.com. another connecticut owner. now for your question. from what i've seen the drag 2/3 kits seem to be the most complete kits for the money. importparts.com has em pretty cheap. as for your car choice...if your gonna spend the money and boost right away...go with a ls. if your not gonna boost for some time and plan on driving the car for a while...try and find a gsr.

either car will have good upgrade options...the gsr being already upgraded some now. good luck.

Fisrt off, I wanna thank all of you who took the time to respond and gave me some valuable info and advice. My goal is to eventually get around 300-350 top wheel horse. I know this is gonna be a difficult task, but I am buying this car as a project car to be used as a weekend warrior and to hit the drags in Englishtown, NJ a few times a year- and I'm more than willing to put the time and effort forth. I'm a bit partial to the T3/T4 set up due to its flexibility and proven production. I guess my question would have been better asked as: which company makes the best T3/T4 set up for the LS Integra for a non-daily driven car, and one that is capable of running 1/4s somewhere in the 12 sec range? Thanks again everyone- your patience as I learn more about Hondas is greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, one more question- I read on the F-Max site that the Drag kits don't come with air filters for the intake, and it seems that the Rev Hards don't either. Is this safe for street driving? If its not safe, can a filter be made to fit???

i have personally dealt with the drag kit, let me tell you, it's a piece of ****. The maxrev kit is 100x better. The stuff is actually welded... and the oil lines and fittings won't leak. Everything in the maxrev kit is handmade and hand selected. All of the fittings are top quality, and everything is TIG welded. I can't stress how much better the quality and fitment is. The maxrev intercooler is also far superior. The fins style favors better cooling and they are hand made... once again, far superior quality.

Also, the drag kit comes with an fmu and inline pump. These are garbage. This will get your motor blown. The maxrev kit can be had for cheaper than the drag. If I were you, I'd get it, add a hondata 2b and some 440dsms with the resistor pack, and call it a day. You'll make a shitload more power, the install will be a ton easier, and you won't have to worry about leaky lines and manifolds cracking.

Just my $.02. And no i don't work for maxrev, they are just one of hte best companies out there, and the drag stuff is really shitty.

I think Maxim has the Drag kit as well, and he isn't happy with it.

do a lot of homework, find people that live around you with the kits actually installed and ask them about the install, fit/finnish, or any other issues they had/have.

you will end up with more knowledge, and the time you may have "wasted" finding out for yourself what is best, you will have saved yourself money if you made a bad decision.

damn..the fmax turbo system is like 600-700$ more then drag. and with the fmax you only get 2 injectors your supposed to hook up somewhere. i would like to see more info on this package before i can say anything about it. i've seen 3 drag systems installed and running fine. 2 integras and 1 civic si. the si was leaking oil cause the lines were installed incorrectly...but no other problems.

Hmm, I've been poking around today comparing the turbo's. There are actually countless people who have not had problems with their DRAG III set-ups, just so many of them out there that you're going to hear more bad stories about them over other brands which are rarely used. One thing that would bug me about a MaxRev kit is it doesnt sound likes its complete, not to mention ug-lee under the engine. I like Go AND Show, no black plastic IC piping for this guy.

Rev hard stage 2 representin...

I have this kit and would recommend it, yea its a FMU + inline... but fmax's MF2 system is utter crap... I'm sure some people that own it can tell you.

The rev hard manifold is one of the best, better and less instances of cracking.
Oil return line does suck yes... but almost all kits do.
Its around the same price as drag depending where you get it from
It has a nice t3/t4e turbo (big, sexy, loud, and powerfull)

I still like the greddy for overall reliability and performance. IMO Greddy is THE best kit if you are running a stock bottom end and cant rev to 8000 Rpm. Ive also had the chance to run in 2 DRAG cars and 1 Greddy car. The Greddy car was much more responsive at WOT. Just make yourself a list of the pros and cons for each kit. Then you should have your answer. Every kit has pros and cons and should be evaluated before purchase. Dont jump into the pool before you know how to swim!!!

I agree. But I would get the Drag or Revhard in my opinion. If your worry about the big t3/t4 lag shoot.... theres always another option goin Ball bearing!!!!!! hehe but yeah it seems like your makin it an all out drag just get a drag or revhard kit or custom one yourself and get that Hondata!!! Good luck man. Let us know what you pick. If your going to buy the Drag kit Ben@importparts.com got it for great deal and cheap price
