Default Found a 929rr for my new ride...

After selling my bike a month ago, I've been searching for something new, and cheap, for a project. I've been considering a zx7r, SV1k, gsxr750, 929rr, and a z1000.

Anyways, I found a 00 929rr, which was laid down. The bike was spotless prior to the wreck, however now it needs a new fairing stay, upper and left side fairings, cracked stator cover, a dent in the tank fixed, and the front master cylinder broke (just the reservoir and tube). Also there is a very small indentation in the frame, about the size of a penny. Clean title, low miles, Power commander, full erion exhaust, and this thing is spotless (aside from the damage) and was clearly well taken care of.

To put this thing back on the street I'd need to put about $300 into it. Acerbis headlight, some new grips, stator cover and fresh oil, fix the master cylinder. To get it back to stock it would run around 1000, after paint.

So, what's a fair price for this bike? I was initially offering 2500, which is really all I have budgeted for it (the guy wants 3k). I just don't want to over pay for this, especially when I have seen non-wrecked 929s go for 4-5k locally.

Wow. Sounds like the 929 took a real big hit on both sides. I don't think I'd even bother buying it, but if you really want it, and don't mind dealing with a bit of work putting it back together, then anything close to 2k is good.

Is it a clean title only because the seller didn't claim it on insurance? A scratch on the frame usually results in a total.

Clean title because of no insurance claim. I tried talking him down because of the dent, but no luck. In my state, a scratch on the frame will give your bike a C.O.D. title 9 times out of 10.

Apparently cold tires got the best of the guy, low sided about 25mph into a ditch and the bike tossed over. The headlight, forks, wheels, gauges, seats and all are straight and very clean. The fairings saved the bike. The bike looks brand new, aside from the damage. New fairings, paint, stator cover, and an upper stay and this bike would be spotless.

I put countless hours into my last bike, and this 929 will require far less work to complete. I've been looking for something wrecked or damaged so I could buy it cheap and rebuild and have a decent commuter. This bike is just so clean that I've been seriously considering picking it up, despite the small dent in the frame and gas tank. I just don't want to jump into this without getting some more rational opinions first. I've been without a bike for a month and I've already got the itch again

It all sounds appealing aside from the dented in the frame. If you're going tp put money into this thing you need to remember one thing: it will still be a bike with a dent in the fram. Cosmetics are easy to replace but I'd avoid an altered, however slight it may be, frame.

It's impossible to give an accurate appraisal of a bike in this condition. Pay only what the bike is worth to you.
