IDRC in 08?
I am wondering if IDRC is still going to do drag events for the 2008 season.....someone posted in another thread that there wasnt going to be any IDRC drag events for the coming year.
Anyone have any info on this? As it sits right now, we only have one socal event. I hope IDRC can come through and give us a couple more

I heard Fontana was maybe having one, than i heard from numerous people that they turned into a drift series and they are the ones who are traveling with BOTI.
I hope this is wrong. And they are still holding races next year. This years event in Utah was a blast!

I think IDRC has followed NHRA and leaving the sport. I mean they only had a couple events last year from the typical 8-9 they ran for years. Truth Honda racing has fallen on its face. To many thieves and cheats in the Honda/Compact world. I have a felling many well known domestic companies that started to develop parts for Hondas will also drop out soon too. I blame China and 19 year old dip ***** for the demise.

yup thats the only thing I have seen.
You know we should setup our own event in Bakersfield on a Saturday that they are open for Test and Tune. I bet if we talk to Tom from Camp1320 he would have some insight for us since he did work for NHRA SC for a couple of years.
6 months till the west coast swing is sure going to be boring otherwise.

There are new bigger names in the domestic industry currently developing products for the Sport Compact industry than we have had in year's past. A lot of the companies that have given it a shot did not market properly to this segment.

Edelbrock, Garrett, Xtrac, Liberty, Arias, Carrillo, Tilton, and many more are non-sport compact specific companies. All have put their time to develop parts for us sport compact guys. None of those are dropping out soon. Theyre as strong as ever. In fact, I bet more parts are going to be developed in the next months to come.
On top of that, more smaller businesses/manufacturers/fabricators are stepping up to provide MORE parts for us to use. Names such as Omnipower, our Exospeed Racing Wheels, and Parts that Tony/T1 Race Development are producing are wanted more than ever. If there wasnt a need for these parts, all these manufacturers wouldnt be making them, but it shows there is a need for them since there are still plenty of racers out there wanting these parts.

Um ok a hand full of companies. You do notice NHRA said expletive it their is no money in compacts. 2 cars in a class is lame in anyones book. IDRC running 1 race. If the money was there like it was 5+years ago IDRC would run a full schedule. Who decides to stop running a successful business? You sell something if its of value,IDRC sadly isnt worth much of anything anymore. It was of a value when IDRC/NHRA ran pomona event back in 99.
Onto domestic companies of course they will continue to sell parts they have developed already for compacts/hondas. Will they work at the same pace they did years ago,of course not. You act like companies don't notice that our community is filled with thieves, low lives, and overall immature level that is found with teenagers.
They too notice lack of racing events etc. Really I mean 1 race a year IDRC can be considered a dead horsejust like NHRA. What will it take for the honda community to come to the conclusion that it went horribly wrong and we are watching it burn yet we argue about what color the flames are.
Again I blame anyone who uses china for there development of parts. How many of these so called honda engineer racing companies own their own cnc machines. I will say 1 in 10.

NHRA and other racing series does not 100% reflect the status of the industry. All it says is that people arent willing to spend $50-100K a year to travel and compete in a national series.
There is still a LARGE following for SC drag racing in general, whether its grassroots competition or the avg weekend warrior. That means there is still a need for those performance parts regardless if there are national racing events or not.
SC Drag Racing wise, I think our business reflects the growth of sc drag racing right now. We sell the most slicks and wheels than any other place in this industry. Lets say we've sold over 400 pairs of wheels and slicks just in 2007. Thats alot of racers and to think alot of those are racers who are possibly just starting out with their first pair of drag wheel setup. Those numbers dont show a decline in my opinion.
To judge the whole indutry based on what IDRC and NHRA is doing, isnt right. If that is so, do we judge the wheel, car accessory industry based on how many Import Showoffs and Hot Import Night events there are? I dont think so

I agree with Wil on these points. How many hundreds or thousands of grassroot level sport compact/import racers are there racing every weekend? Regardless of what kind of activity is going on at the "National" level, there will still be a need for drag racing related parts and equipment for those who are racing on the local level. There are guys here where I'm at (Hawaii) who spend a fair amount on their race cars, but we don't even have our own events, let alone a sport compact series. We just have our own class. I'm not sure if it's the same in other parts of the country, but as long as there are sport compact drag racers, the need for the parts is going to be there. Just my .02

a bakersfield event would be great! well i'm probably going to hit up Barona for some of their events. even though its an 1/8th mile. it should be cool. and also will add for some good testing time.
