I did the same thing about two months ago also. I ended up bending my valves. Then I went and got skunk2 valves crower springs and retainers and skunk2 cam gears all put on and the total bill was $1,700 (also included was arp head studs and honda oem head gasket.)
i didn't go past 9 thats the thing .. i have a p28 so i ihad to shift at 7 and when i missed it when to 9000 rms no mor no less

9K RPM? and i'm assuming you've got an GSR. i'd say it's f*cked (8K redline... thats a little more than the hodna "slack" gives you)

You guys need to stop shifting kung-fu style. It shouldn't take a lot of force to change gears. Don't try to force it if it doesn't go, that's how stuff gets broken. And if you miss 4th and hit 2nd, you definitely need to slow down--the 3-4 shift is the path of least resistance!
once I almost did that (stereo was too loud) but my car actually wouldn't even let me get it into 2nd, it just grinded to hell.. I couldn't do it if I wanted to
B series motors are rock hard... I've 9 pegged an LS with no damage.
Is the car ticking at all ? I would recommend you do a valve adjustment to keep everything tight. If you really want, you can pull the head to inspect the valves, it'll cost you a headgasket and labor if you need to pay for it.

What do bent valves sound like? Is it the ticking that X2BOARD describes?
I hear a slight (and inconsistent) ticking in my engine (For about 1300 miles now). The ticking is proportional to RPMs when I hear it.
I had the valve clearances adjusted to spec, but the noise is still there.
Please share your insights BVM and X2BOARD.
Thank You.

I love the guys who lean forward and when they shift to second or fourth they throw their weight into it.....
Not to be a smartass or anything, but how does one put a car in second (thinking it's fourth) when your in third. Doesn't make any since even when racing or whatever...
Actually its not that uncommon, look at all the people that replied to this one post saying they've done it themselves. I did it at the track earlier this month, made a loud *** sound but nothing seems to be wrong. Only thing that pissed me off is I would've broken into 14's if that wouldnt have happened, ran a 15.1.

it's actually pretty easy to do something like that, it's not uncommon under "spirited driving sessions"

How do you guys always miss 4th and hit second? Are you new drivers or something? from third its straight back not back and to the left. Why dont you practice a lil more on shifting before you think you can race.
Be more carefull then things like this wont happen. I think the worste thing I have ever done is let the clutch out too fast. I cant see hitting second shifting from third tho.
If you just pull the clutch to neutral it automatically goes to middle which is above 3rd and 4th gear. straight back fellas straight back.

the reason why some people end up going from 5th to 2nd is because there gearbox is set up where reverse is under 5th and they are afraid that they might go into reverse, unlike german cars where reverse is up by 1st gear
