d16a1 transmission gear ratio's
Well, I was just curious because i have an 86-87 d16a1 transmission im selling. I did a search for what the gear ratios are and cant figure how this could be possiable.
http://www.g1teg.org/specs/
1st 3.181
2nd 1.944
3rd 1.347
4th 1.033
5th .848
Final Drive Ratio 4.214
how is that right?? Im putting together a tranny right now with zc gears and si final drive.
This is my setup:
(cable)
3.250(zc,si)
1.944(zc)
1.346)zc)
1.066(vx3rd)
0.878(zc)
Final Drive---4.250(si)
They are almost the same. If those ratios are true why wouldnt everyone use an a1 tranny and fab up mounts?
If those ratios are right then the a1 final drive must be taller.
That makes the car up to 4300rpm @ 80mph in 5th gear. That cant be right for the stock acura.

Those ratios should be correct. I have an A1 trans in my garage I can tear apart and count the ratios sometime.
People don't use the A1 trans since you have to fab the mounts and use an intermediate shaft. Or use a SOHC diff and regular axles. Also the shafts are larger and use roller bearings. Only gears that will swap are older Accord and Prelude gears.
I think the A1 trans would be good for people doing H/F to D who will already have to fab up mounts. Just put in a SOHC hydro diff or an LSD while you are refreshing the trans. I have a theory that the roller bearings might free up some power.

thats crazy. Ive heard that the zc 5th with si FD was super short. I cant believe that came on an oem tranny.
When you crack it open let me know what the true ratios are.
