Default B16a Questions

Hello all. i need some help from anyone that will help. basically i've got a budget of $3000-4000 Canadian and all i want to do is get my car running atleast 200 HP. Now i've though about turbokit but since everyone is running turbokits i've decided to go all motor. What would be the main things i should change to gain some serious HP? I've heard of flywheel, headers, intake, ecu...what else? keep in mind my budget is 3-4 grand canadian and my goal is 200+ hp.

There is a good reason why most b16a owners opt for a turbo kit. You will spend 2-3X as much tring to get the same horsepower N/A. Good luck with your build though.

To make that power easy, just buy a B20 or LS bottom end and put your head on it. Problem solved.

BOOOOST FTW! making a b16 200+ whp NA is hard and expensive plus you run the risk of having emissions problems.

Hell no it's not.

Show me ONE B16A with cams, injectors, and tune making 200whp - hell show me one making 185whp.

i have come to the conclusion that unless you are going to pop the head, na mods for the 1.6 variants arent worth too much. there has been evidence that mods make a difference, just not enough bang for the buck.

Lmao brah, your best bet is to just get a car that has 200+ hp stock, its gonna take a lot of cash out of your pocket to push any N/A B series motor over 200WHP... GL brah.

Here's your answer:

If you want 200 CRANK horsepower then your best bet if find a 1.8L block, toss the B16A head on and find some nice ITR/CTR cams or Skunk 2 Stage 1/comparable cams with good i/h/e and tuning.

If you want 200WHP which is what the real world users here quote and discuss, good luck. It's not hard to do these days, but it will require a lot more money than you're looking to spend.

BTW:

I know nobody here will probably agree with me, but a good old Jackson Racing supercharger sounds like an alternative here. Others will bash it, but honestly it's about as trouble free and easy to install and use. It's reliable, would get you closer to the 200whp mark than anything N/A for the same price, etc.

Just saying...

Don't bother trying to achieve that goal with a b16a. Such a waste of money. You can spend a fraction of the cost and piece together a nice turbo kit and go over 200 anyways.

There is nothing wrong with remaining naturally aspirated, but for God sake, not with a 1.6L

Good luck

thanks for all the help guys...i guess going all motor isn't going to cut it. as for the supercharger i heard of a b16 engine you're better off going with a turbokit but if a supercharger kit is gonna be cheaper and get me over 200 whp that's all that matters

**puts on flame suit**

I'm sure this is going to **** some people off, but I managed to get 176 WHP (yes wheel) out of a 100% internally stock b16a2 (stock injectors too) with nothing more than a used chikara LS header (50$) test pipe, cat back exhaust (made the test pipe and catback myself) a VAFC (again used 65$) walboro fuel pump (125$) skunk cam gears and a snow's performance (www.snowperformance.net) water/methanol injection system (299.99$)

I think the dyno vid is still up on my website (in my sig) all dyno tuning was done at my shop, and since this is one of my employees cars dyno time was free for him...good thing too...took over 9 hours to get the tune perfect...dyno is a land and sea chassis dyno

that was less than 1k$ worth of parts to get that point...I'm sure that with some more bolt ons (cams, and a decent header) I could have picked up another 10-15 WHP gets you pretty close to 200 WHP for 2k$ US in parts...it's the dyno time to tune it that kills ya

but seriously, throw a 500$ nitrous kit on it with a 50-75 shot, and your right there too...lots of different options to get 200 WHP out of a b16 for that kind of money...most of them do involve forced induction though

as long as your going to keep the boost low (stock boost setting is 6psi I believe) and set your timing to their instructions you should be in pretty good shape with that kit, I would still recommend a walboro pump and a good header
