Leaky Valve Cover?!?
I have a 93 civic ex coupe with the D16Z6, of course. It has 109,000 miles on it, and already had all scheduled service done (t-belt, water pump, 3k oil changes, etc...) and I've never had a problem with it until now. Today I noticed a oily looking stain around the #1 Spark plug, on the valve cover, and it extends to where the valve cover meets the head. The plug wire on that cylinder has a little wetness at the top of the wire, that smells like oil/gas mixture. Also, the other day, when I was accelerating I noticed a strange little "tingy" noise that starts around 4500 rpm, that has since gone away, but now I saw that leak, and I think it may be related. Well sorry for the life story here, but I'd appreciate some input on whats goin on with my beloved
I was just told by a mechanic, that its most likely the spark plug seal tube on that #1 cylinder, it would explain why its on the boot of the wire and all that, so 4 new ones, and a new valve cover gasket, and i'm good to go, thanks for the help

I will agree with 1 Evil Civic. Dudes how could it be a head gasket when it is leaking into the plug hole. Im a mechanic and It is always the seals around the plugs that leak oil into the plug hole. Just replace your v/cover gasket and they usually always come with 4 little seals for the plug holes and your good to go
replace the head gasket and the little rubber things (sorry i dont know what they are called) that goes underneath the valve cover screws. my car was doing almost the same thing so i changed the gasket and those lil o looking rubber things and it fine now. oh btw, make sure you clean the valve cover with some simple green to make it clean after you change the gasket so you know if it leaks again.
good luck dude.

correct, just get the valve cover seal and the o rings that surround the spark plugs on the valve cover, and you should be good to go. Those orings usually tear a little due to changing/checking spark plugs, when you pull them out, they scrape on the oring.

VTEC CX do you ever post anything beside thumb ups or restated information?
Yup, folks that are mentioning compression tests and head gaskets are WAYYYY jumping the gun. The obvious place to look is definitely the valve cover gaskets. That's a minor problem, and it can be done in 15 minutes or less. Some folks here seriously talk out of their asses, but nothing really comes out but a little *parf*
