Default sohc vtec question

can anyone feel their sohc vtec "crossing over" or what? will a chip increase this effect? i put in an ecu from an integra b16 and my sohc vtec (d16a) seems to kick a little harder.

vtec cross over is just the engaugment points when vtec comes in and out, it can be changed by a chip to be where ever you want. As for the "kicking harder issue" i think its either in or out, but it could be at a different point.

i was rolling that around in my head too, i would agree. because my power peak is at 6600rpms vtec w/this ecu hits at 6000 which is closer to my power peak while vtec hitting at 5k or so is further away from my power peak making it not as much of change... its kinda cool feeling it more, but it doesn't make sense because my car is probably running slower...

I didnt even know you could use a b series ecu, lol. I dont really feel it too much in my z6, i had to put a vtec light in mine cause i couldnt even tell if it was working when i swapped, lol. But with a intake and exhaust you can hear it a lot better.

get a led with built in resistor from radio shack, power wire to vtec solenoid wire on ecu and find ground. Wha-la, vtec light (gets nice and shiny when vtec hits, lol)!

bye, bye $20

If you can feel VTEC engage in a SOHC, it's not tuned correctly, and you might have made your car slower.

JDM d16a = USDM d16z6

I agree with everything else you said though.

ive come to realize that, dude a chip is a chip someone obviously burned a skunk2 chip, what does it matter to me if its not from skunk2 or not? as long as it runs the same, the way i see it i got a chip for cheap and i have an extra p28 lying around, so i dont see anything wrong with it, do you?

It's not going to run the same. That's what's wrong with it. Generic chips do not work with every (if any) engine setup. You need to actually get a tune or use your stock ECU.

And we all know that revving high always equates to more power, right?

...although, I do agree, a cam will make VTEC louder...

Fair enough. Although, there is a good chance that you will not see your money again. If you got it from eBay, I don't think they will do anything about an item that is $20 or under. I'm not sure if that is the exact amount though.

You said that the chip is worth buying because it will "change somethings like redline and what not." I thought it was implied, but I guess not.

CROME is an excellent solution.

I have never seen good reviews of a Skunk2 generic chip aside from eBay (and similar sites).
