Default Some questions about 2000 Civic Si Rims

I absolutely love these OEM Rims and have been contemplating getting a set for quite some time...

Well I finally found somebody who's selling a set in very good condition with tires with 50% life left. The Price: $300

First: Is this a good deal knowing the condition of the rims and tires?

Second: I know these rims are 7in. wide...will this provide enough contact area to provide good handling ability given I buy a set of good performance summer tires (Ecsta's, Ziex's, VRi's etc) if mounted on a 2001 Civic Sedan weighing in at 2500lbs or less? [Guess that question has to deal more with the tire I choose]

Third: How durable are these rims? From experience do they scratch easily? Has bending / folding and or cracking ever been an issue for these rims in particular?

Idk...guess I just want to know as much as possible about a possible future investment...

they are heavy
bending/folding/cracking? - they're OEM rims. You can beat on them and they'll be fine.
scratching - again OEM rims.

$300 with tires is not great but not bad, if the rims are in good shape.

These rims aren't all that uncommon. You should be able to find a bunch of listings for them, either in the marketplace forums or on eBay, to see what they've been selling for.

Tires rarely add significant value to a set of wheels, especially if they're worn (and at 50 percent, these are already pretty worn; most people underestimate wear percentage). Unless the tires are close to new and exactly what you would otherwise buy, my rule of thumb is, buy a set of wheels and tires if the wheels are worth the price to you, even without tires; if they come with tires, think of the tires as a free bonus.

No, they aren't. They are 15x6. That means they are six inches wide. Note that wheel width is measured at the bead, where the inside edge of the tire is mounted. Maybe you measured the width from the outside edge of the lip of the wheel? That would probably give you a measurement of 7 inches for the outer dimensions. But when people quote wheel widths, they are quoting at the bead, and 2000 Si wheels are 15x6.

15x6 is fine for use on a 2001 Civic Sedan. Your stock tire size is either 185/70-14 (DX, LX) or 185/65-15 (EX). With 15" wheels, you can use either 185/65-15 or 195/60-15, and either size fits just fine on a 15x6 wheel.

There aren't a whole lot of good summer tires in those sizes; the only one the Tire Rack sells is the Yokohama ES100 in 195/60-15 ($82/tire). That's what I would recommend if you have a separate set of wheels with winter tires for winter use. Note that the Falken Ziex (ZE-512 and ZE-912) and Fuzion VRi that you mentioned are both all-season tires. All-seasons are designed to be okay in snow and frigid cold as well as in moderate to warm temperatures; in exchange for this greater flexibility, they don't grip as well as summer tires in moderate to warm temperatures. So if you have a separate set of winter tires, I recommend the ES100 for the rest of the year.

If you DO need to use these tires all year round, so you need all-seasons, you have several options that are much better than the Ziex or VRi. The Kumho ASX in 195/60-15 is $46/tire at the Tire Rack and is an awesome deal. Other good choices in all-seasons are the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position in 195/60-15 ($75) and in 185/65-15 ($75).

Note that the stock size on a 2000 Civic Si is 195/55-15. If that's the car they were previously used on, then they probably had that size, or maybe 205/50-15. These sizes are a bit too small for your 2001 Civic. However, if you want, you can use up these tires on your car. (I hate the idea of getting rid of tires that still have tread on them!) Just remember that they will throw off your speedometer and odometer by making it read higher by 3-5 percent, and they will lower your car by roughly half an inch. And remember to get the better matching size of either 195/60-15 or 185/65-15 when you need to replace them.

I would jump on it for 300. I know a guy with a eg hatch that traded his brand new 700 dollar Motegi 17 inch wheels and brand new tires straight up for these si wheels and the tires on them only had half tread left.
