Painters and paint experts, I need to pick ur brains about prices???
I can post some pics if it would help...but I would have to take them in like two days or so due to my work schedual...anyways here goes:
I have a White 92 EG hatch, and I can do just about anything mechanical ie: motor swaps, brake upgrades, bla bla bla if you can screw it in or unscrew it I can work on it.
I've never touched anything having to do with paint or body work so I need some help from you guys. I dont' know about paint, how to paint, what is involved with painting, I am a compleat rookie in this area!!! Its time to get the hatchy painted and I want to have a rough idea of what to i should expect to pay for what I want?????
WHAT I WANT:
Basically I wanna paint my car championship white or possibly the new scion TC white (I like the paint job those come with from toyota).
Areas I want painted:
Compleat exterior
Engien bay
possibly the whole interior, but definatly the area from the rear seats back.
What needs body work:
install new core support
various dings around the car (like the lil door dings nothing major)
What i'm trying to find out from you guys is:
Roughly what should I expect to pay?
What are some good white paints for this job and how much should I get...and cost of course?
What kinda primer and clear should I get and how much...and cost of course?
What kinda questions should I be asking potential painters?
I think that covers it and remeber what I can deliver to the painter is a shell with the motor out, brake lines out, wiring out, interior out, and body parts (doors, fenders, hood, bla bla bla) off if needed. Basically anything mechanically speaking I can remove b4 hand, and assymble myself later.
Thanks in advance for helpin me out guys.

if your wanting the engine bay, interior of the car, and all sprayed i could see upwards of around 4-5k. whites not that bad to spray, and as far as which white to go with, i would say go look on the new car lots and see what you like. when you find one you like get the paint code off of it. if you cant find it, different makers are in different locations on the car, grab the VIN # and call the service department, they can tell you from the VIN.
if you go to a reputable shop, you shouldnt have to worry about what primers and clears they use. and dont buy all your materials and want them to use what you bring. some shops look down on this.
just ask what kinda materials they use, brand, how many coats of base and clear do they spray. what kind of warrenty. things like that

It all depends on what brand you go with. I use PPG and usually shoot 3 coats of base (until I get coverage) and 2 full wet coats of clear. A good painter should know his product. I also did a color change on my brothers Midori EG and got a gallon of base (1:1) and a gallon of clear. As far a primer goes, you only need to primer any repair areas and where it is bare metal. Make sure you seal the entire car before the base goes on.
