HIR Bulbs, Reviews?
I've noticed a few people suggesting "HIR" bulbs. Are these for real or a joke.
Excuse my phrasing but i've been out of the "game" for a few years. I put HID Bulbs in my 240sx and while I LOVED how it looked it really did not make all that much difference and was nowhere near as bright as OEM S2000 setup. I'm about to purchase a 2000 civic EX for my new beater and was wondering if this was a legitimate upgrade w/o spending the cash to do a HID retrofit.

Here's an old comparo I did when I had them:

They're pretty good for the money, but you can get some Nighthawks, etc. for a bit cheaper and sacrifice a little light.

HIR bulb sizes are referred to as 9012 for low beam and 9011 for high beam applications. The bases are very similar to 9006 and 9006 respectively.
http://www.hirheadlights.com for more info.
However 92-00 Civics use H4 dual filament bulbs, so HIR won't work for that application. Your best option would be either Philips Xtreme Power or Osram Nightbreakers (slightly better than the Xtremes from the reviews I've seen). You can find pics of cars with these bulbs here in this forum.

Well this might have been a lost cause, the civic i'm purchasing uses 9003 bulbs I think, so I guess i'm out of luck with this idea. I only see these bulbs for 9005 / 9006

just to reinforce that the HIR bulbs are absolutely incredible!
however, if you are looking for an alternative for h4, the best i've seen is the Osram Hyper 85/80 in terms of true white bright light with no reflected color in the housing when the light is off...
