+1

Swapping in a sohc vtec head will cost you about 2x as much as a cam (counting the HG) and give you about 4x more performance (than a cam), and be about the same effort.

non-vtec d15 = not worth the effort...

Honestly, I couldn't disagree more with the posts already in this thread. Seeing as how I have had one once when I couldn't afford a swap.. I found a lot of things that can help produce more power, and walk all over B16's for the most part. Which brings me to my next statement that swapping in a B16 is a waste of time -- Yay, you gain like 4lbs of torque.

With a D15, if you just want some more power, basic bolt ons and a D16a6 cam will help tons. You can find an A6 cam for cheap (Got mine for $30 on eBay). With that, all you will need is a D16Y7 cam gear (Yet again, very cheap on eBay). That cam gear will make the timing right without having to make any modifications or tune.

Want more? Get an EX transmission -- it has shorter gearing and a higher FD than the stock poopy DX trans. It will definitely help your acceleration. While you're in there -- get a Fidanza flywheel and a new clutch. They can both be found for very cheap. D series FTW. Lol.

Whatever you do, good luck

Point conceded - I was posting with an aftermarket $125 - $250 Camshaft in mind.

You're right though - you can make enough new power on a budget (more than a CAI) to make things interesting with stock parts from other engines and the Tranny/Flywheel/clutch can follow you to other D-series if you upgrade to a different engine in the future.

I don't see blowing the B16 away though... (gearing gives them more torque at the wheels with roughly the same shift points mph-wise)

I think these are right, I apologize if they are not (don't base your pace maker on these stats)...

--------------------1--------2---------3---------4-------5 --------R-------F
B16(A2 or A3)--3.230---2.105---1.458---1.107---0.848---3.000---4.400
D16Z6-----------3.250---1.900---1.250---0.909---0.750---3.153---4.250

I want to know how many of those B16's were running in limp mode when you "raced" them! haha Too funny. I would really like to see a d15 eat a b16.....without boost or nitrous of course.
