Default IAC - important or no for drag car?

I'm looking at building a new intake manifold and using an Edelbrock 3812 (75mm) TB, which does not have provisions for an Idle Air Control motor. Idle will be adjustable via throttle stop only.

Is this a big deal? What do you other SFWD type guys run for throttle bodies?

"you know that screw you aint supposed to mess with on the throttlebody?"

me "yeah?"

burris "ya mess with it"

he hee. i thought that was funny. he didnt. he was serious.

I have an older Accel DFI Gen7 and no Idle control motor. It just takes more time to get the car tuned for cold starts and hot starts but once its tuned, its all good. I got to amit that when you have control over an idle air control motor, its alot easier to get the car fine tuned for cold start, hot start, idle, drivablity, ETC.

Most of the cars that I tune that dont have IAC I get as close as possible to the target RPM with adjusting the throttle position and reset the throttle scale. After that you can adjust idle ignition timing up or down to get the idle rpm needed.

So does it make a different in power if you remove it or leave it on? If it makes it easier to tune, why would you go threw the trouble unless it made more power.

some Intake manifolds/throttle bodies arent set up for it, but they do make a relocation kit! all depends on your setup-if you have an IM/TB that will accept it leave it, if not either leave it off or buy the relo kit if it makes you feel better.

I personaly didnt use it because it makes the intake manifold look cleaner but on cars with plug n play like the AEM EMS, Hondata, ETC. I use the idle air control motor because its all ready there and it just makes it easier to tune. It will not affect power in anyway regardless if you use it or not.

I also have 1600cc without a IAC and the car starts up great. Just fired it up without even having to blip the throttle and its about 40 deg. outside. Just spend some more time on the start up tune.

Without an IAC you will have to have a high idle when it's warm for it to idle when it's cold. I have no IAC and it fires right up when it's cold, but it idles at 1600rpms when it's warm. Big cams and big injectors. I can get it down a little, but i like a solid idle, can't stand when a car dies all the time.

If you want to use an IAC but don't have a provision to mount one, you can use this.

my car would have to idle about 1800 hot with no IAC with the roller rocker cam set up. for some reason with those cams i dont think the IAC would really help too much lol
