dash swap q's
how should i remove the vin number from my old dash and put it on my new dash?
also, i am taking my harness off my old dash and am having some trouble with the climate control plugs, they are kinda hard to reach, any suggestions on unplugging them? heres a pic of what i'm talking about (the green and white plugs)

Very carefully remove it and re-rivet it in the new dash. If you feel that its somthing that your not 100% sure on, see if you can get a shop to do it just be sure to bring all papers to show everything is legit so they know they arent dealing with stolen parts.
If none of those 2 work out, the state patrol does an inspection where you set an appointment up and you bring in the new dash with paperwork to make sure everything is legit and they put a sticker on your car showing its been inspected so you wont get hassled by a cop if he does find that its swaped.
Ive only had 1 run in where a cop actually noticed it, but after i showed him the papers that it was legit and my other vin #'s on the car matched he gave me the "ok" but still advised i got it inspected.
hope that helps.

Im not sure, just size up the rivets on the dash to a drill bit. Start out small and then size it up each time so you get what you need to get it out and not damage it.

As far as the dash goes. I know from experience it is a pain in the butt. I had to disconnect the wiring harness clip from below the radio to get extra slack to remove the plugs in the back from the climate control module and the same for re-installing it.

Ok, I just tryed drilling the rivits out, and it wouldn't drill straight down, it drilled through it at an angle, so it didn't drill the whole rivit out (the bottom/back of the rivitis still there) and the vin is still stuck on.. What is the best way to remove them??

Just go to state patrol before you completely screw the whole plate up and then have cops giving you a hard time and impounding your car, better to be safe than sorry, cops can be dicks around this area and its not fun.thats just my advise to you, but have fun tryin to get the plate off cleanly, im sure it can be done, but if ur anything like me and get frustrated over something simple, get it done so its backed up by the state.
save you court time and money.

So if I took my dash in to the state patrol what would they do and how much would it cost to get them to switch the tags? Yeah I know I just went to court today and got my 700 dollar ticket differed and now I can't be getting any more tickets for a year.

Yes cops CAN be dicks; but with this situation, if you have all the papers and its not stolen there is no reason for them to be a dick unless you have a bad attitude to begin with.
To the OP:
Since its stuck try prying underneath it really slow with a small flathead screwdriver. Just Make sure to keep the screwdriver as close to the rivet as possible so you dont bend and damage the plate itself.

yes that is true but i didnt know saying "yes sir" "no sir" and just answering questions calm and normal could result in that, not to be a dick towards you, im just goin through alot of **** with the state right now and im getting real annoyed with miscommunication between the DMV and olympia, i go to get my ID since my license is getting suspended for 90 days, but at the dmv they like we cant give you an ID, it says we can only give you an temp License and you have to use your school ID and it expires on 1/16/2008, so im like okay cool, and i even called my lawyer to confirm anything has happened like this and he says yes recently with others this has, so i go to dol.wa.gov and check my status and now its not valid for sure, so now i have no valid ID which means i cant buy a pack of smokes if i wanted, sorry for the long post but this is getting annoying, my little incident happened over 5 months ago, and there has been nothing but confusion, so much for goin out on my Bday next week. Can you guys tell im annoyed?!
TO the OP, you can always call WSP and get the info from them over the phone or just very carefully try what De_Tour said to try.

True
I attempted prying it, and its pretty hard getting a screwdriver under it without scraping into the dash and bending the edge of the plate upwards, and I still can't get under the rivit because its on there pretty tight. Any other methods?

look, it's real simple. finish drilling out the rivets. it's not that hard to do. once you are done, you can re-rivet to the new dash or bolt it. if you decide to bolt it, you can use a allen screw with a bolt and a washer under the dash.
as for the climate control and blower stuff, i never had to disconnect no green harness before.
there should be one harness on the side of the center console. this can be accessed from under the dash (driverside).
the other 2 can be accessed once you remove the center console and radio. the are quite easy to get to as well.

Make sure you have a Sharp Drill bit, People overlook that, if the bits Dull you might as well be using a butter knife. Use a bit a little bit larger than the hole in the top of the rivets,
Then take a small screw driver and knock the top of the rivet off, Kinda like a chisel.

Got a new question. So I was able to unplug those connectors out of my old dash, and well I plugged that harness into the JDM climate control on the new dash and plugged in with a little work, but some of the black plastic around the stationary plug was broken, so I plugged it in as far as it would go (it is the white plug to the left of the green one in the pic). Right now I am test fitting my dash and decided to plug everything in and make sure everything worked. Everything works on the dash accept the back lights on the climate control, I'm just wondering if its one of these connectors I pictured or if its another one I forgot to plug in? I just need some help figuring out which of the plugs on the harness it is that turns on the lights.

It is the JDM climate control that has already been installed in the new dash, but from what I understand it is a USDM box with the JDM faceplate and amber lights, as it is still cable operated and not electronic. Heres a pic of it in the dash (sorry for it being blurry but it was the best I could get before my camera died).

I would yank it out, disassemble the face plate to check your bulbs just to make sure they are in working order.
It might be a bitch to do but you could pull one harness plug at a time from the back and turn on your dash lights to troubleshoot which one is for the bulbs. I want to say its one of the green ones but im not 100% sure.
Were you able to remove that harness with ease or was it dificult?

I know that the bulbs work and light up because I saw the whole dash lit up back when it was in my friends car about a week ago.

Ok, I might try and do that. What green harness plugs are you reffering to, the one that I pictured?

Removing climate control harness was pretty difficult, due to practicaly no space to move anything in there, it took me nearly an hour to widdle the white and green plugs out lol.

Its either the green or the white one but since u said that the plastic was broken for the white one and you plugged it in as far as it would go i would suspect it might be that one.
If you were able to remove the gauge cluster and bezel you can access the climate control from the top which i have always found easier.

So it is definately the white or green plugs? So you recommend to troubleshoot with them? I don't think that I can reach the plugs from the top, I was only able to get to them from the back when the dash was out of the car.
