SAFETY EQUIPMENT THREAD
We converse about most the aspects of fabrication in this forum except for what is in my opinion the most important part.... safety. (I sound like a OSHA rep)
Basically... what equipment do you use and what are the benefits or qualms you have with each piece. For example... welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, respirators, ear muffs, etc.
Also..maybe some insight into the products we use and their affects on us...IE using aluminum oxide cutting blades...and what it does to your lungs! yikes!
My most recent purchase was a 3M respirator with the 2091 Filters...cost me about 20 bucks and its great. Fits underneath my welding mask and doesn't bother me at all!
lmk if you have some form of safety equipment that rocks or some good material data sheet (MDS) documentation on common abrasives etc.

i'm kinda back woods. you'll catch me smoking while cutting a pipe with an angle grinder with no mask or ear muffs.
i've been getting better lately.
if your thinking about getting into tig welding, don't bother with the $400 maskes. go get yourslef a regular flip down hood with a big window.
i've seen 3 guys get flash burn because they were welding in "grind" mode.
not to mention, if your welding in a hard to see spot, a lot of times the torch light is being blocked so your mask won't kick on.

My miller Elite big window...has 4+ sensors...so it wont be blocked. Also...you can tell a big difference between grind mode and regular mode. If you're not switching your helmet correctly... only god can fix that

yeah seriously if you cant tell you're just a jackass....and yes you can still block the sensors on them, i have that helmet..i like it but i sometimes like the regular deal too especially when doing long welds or something where initial position or quality is not super high cause the view and color is much better
I am crazy about my ears. I wear ear plugs all the time in the shop. I can't get rid of the ringing in my ears so I don't want to make it worse. Oh yeah, ain't nothing as fun as getting a piece of welding splatter in your ear.
I hate also picking picking chunks of grinding disk out of my eyes.
Don't forget the hat when welding. Love the burns on the noodle. Nothing like the smell of burning hair in the morning.

i thought it was pretty stupid that people couldn't tell grind mode either, but hey, i guess its easy to mix it up

i like the ear plugs that are attached by an orange plastic deal and the things that go in your ears are orange triangle looking things, best ones i have used as far as comfort while wearing and when just on my neck
