Default From D to B: My 94 Del Sol Si Build (56k go home)

Hello fellow honda-tech'ers! A couple years back when I got my 95 coupe with a d16z6, I wanted to go turbo right from the start. So I went with a basic setup, piecing together my own kit with a straight .42/.48 t3 tuned on crome. At 11 psi, the car was a blast, although I never got to a dyno, it would easily walk most n/a cars around town. The tranny didn't last long and when I needed to replace the clutch, the car was stolen from my driveway and I have never recovered it.

I then found a pretty good deal on a b20/vtec GSR Integra with a Type-R Integra transmission. This car was pretty fun, it was very streetable and had everything aftermarket so I didn't touch it. That lasted about 7 months before it was totaled! DON'T LET YOUR GIRLFRIEND DRIVE YOUR CAR:

Needless to say I was a little disappointed! I then had a complete swap, but no shell. I found a pretty clean 94 del sol si shell for $500, complete with everything minus the stock b16! Then the swap went down and dayum, dropping 700 lbs with the same motor made the sol pretty quick! Then the boost bug hit again and I found a good deal on a used but complete custom kit for $350 off ebay. I'm now waiting on some injectors (probably going dsm 450's), and a tune on crome pro. The turbo kit consists of a garrett 60-1, with a log manifold, turbonectics evolution 38mm wastegate, 2.5" downpipe, turbo xs blow off valve, 2.5" intercooler piping, and a backdoor intercooler. Enough with the stories, onto the pix! Enjoy.

I'll probably be installing everything when the weather is less shitty here. Going to be running about 9-10 psi on the stock block (pray for my sleeves prs) for now, tuning on crome pro with a p28. Hoping for around 300-330 hp ...stay tuned!

Definitely a good find for only $500. It needs some work, but seems like you are on the right track.

Not sure how much boost you plan on running, but remember that B20 sleeves aren't the best things in the world when it comes to reliability IMHO. Don't boost too much without having a great tune. The tune will make the difference in the reliability of the car/motor. That turbo looks bad BTW ... needs some clean-up and probably some work if you picked up the "whole kit" for $350.

Good luck and let's see some results

The turbo is off of a fresh rebuild, there is no shaftplay whatsoever. It just looks shitty due to the awesome, chipped red paint! I don't plan on boosting more than 9-10 lbs to start, and I may opt in for a b18 block in the future when I decide to build the bottom end.

Refer to this pic for the whole kit:

Yes the downpipe has been beaten to a pulp, the previous owner had clearance issues with a moroso oil pan. I plan to have a new 3" one fabricated after the install.

Update 2/19/08:

After about 48 hours, boost is operational! Installed everything myself with minor mishaps-including the realization that my oil sandwhich adapter was backwards, don't ask-she started up and runs strong. On low boost, it sees about 4.5 lbs 4700 rmps. I am hesitant at this time to even rev it that high as I am only running a richened b20 fuel map on my current crome pro chip. I will be getting tuned this weekend on rc 550s. I am planning to turn the boost up to 10 lbs and hope for 300-325 hp on a conservative tune.

Also, I am burning oil and feel the motor really bog down at about 3000 rmps through about 4100 rmps. The smoke is a distinct blue coming out of my downpipe and comes sporadically throughout the rmp range, mostly from a stop and sudden acceleration, but sometimes not at all. Would I be wrong to assume that it is because I am running rather rich AND seeing boost without consideration to the tune?

Pics will be up tomorrow!

Let me point out that the del Sol Si comes with a D16Z6. The del Sol VTEC comes with the B16
