? ? ? Civic Si vs. Type R ? ? ?
Okay here folks. I know they're tuned.
Si = 160hp and tight shocks
Type R = 195 and rock solid shocks and a lil more torque from the 1.8
That's all i know about the 2 cars what makes the gigantic difference that I seem to hear from people. I own an Si and would like to know what i'm missing here. Never driven the R so lookin for facts not opinions. Thanx.

The extra 35 hp is real noticable when I'm on the track with a Type R behind me. It's limited slip diff really helps a ton with handling, as do the different spring rates.
there is weight. I'm not sure on the exact weight of the R, but the Si is like 2600lbs, the R is lighter.
5lug suspension on the R, 4 on the Si
Bigger brakes and swaybars on the R
And a lot nicer of an interior.IMO
IMO the biggest difference is the torque. The 1.8 owns and is an excelletn motor.

Allright people... i want facts about the 2 vehicles. If you're gonna give comments like "1.8 ownz" and "they're totally different" then leave my thread alone. If you wanna post... tell me HOW they're different. But if you have some knowledge to share. Please do so. Thank you for being courteous.

They weigh almost the same too.
Si has a 13mm rear sway and a 26mm front
TypeR has a 22mm rear and a 25? (24 or 25) mm front.
TypeR has way too many things to list.....oil pump, flywheel, pistons, rods, head, valve springs, cams........seats, looks (
) theft record.

list of reasons:
1) TQ. 1.8 owns
2) obviously there is a longer stroke, but with that comes Higher compression
3)Head work from the factory...a miled p&p, better Intake manifold, and bigger cams and better valve springs.
4) Better ecu
5)1.8 owns
6)LSD tranny
then there is the whole suspension thing that we could spend days talking about.

These just give you the 35 hp. I know that already.

My friend has an R and all he did was lower it. I have a 96 Civic EX coupe and I changed out the springs, shocks, and put in upper rear and front strut bars, and his car still out handles mine.
Damn the Type R!

which R? itr or ctr? which gen?
i guess you're talking about itr and siR previous gen...
itr is faster and handles better... i think that covers it

Si and Type R?? their no where close in Handling, Performance, Brake's. I've been in my friend's itr, and it pulllllllll's soooooo much nicer and every thing on tha car is really clean. If I look back from this day I wouldn't of ever buy an Si!
How about get in an ITR and drive it back to back with a Civic Si and then you will never ask this question again.
Sorry about this, but there's no comparison really.
I'll break down a few points real quick:
Weight:
Nearly identical, yet the ITR offers much more
Engines:
Si: 160hp B16A2 Nice motor - usually dynoes around 142whp or so with 102ft/lbs. of torque.
ITR: 195hp B18C5. Usually dynoes 160-165whp with 120-122ft/lbs. of torque.
That right there would be enough to end the debate. Equal weights, but the ITR offers much more power and torque. But, there's much more to this comparison:
Stock tires:
Civic Si: Shitty Michelin XGTV4. Notorious for being short lived, yet sorry grip? What gives?
ITR: Bad-*** Bridgestone Potenza RE010. Sticky-*** tires, but not so good in winter.
Suspension?
Civic Si:
Decent struts, but soft springs for a comfy ride. 14mm rear sway
ITR:
Great O.E struts, stiffer springs, 22mm rear swaybar.
Brakes?
Si: Decent brakes.
ITR: Bigger brakes, ABS which makes a big difference.
Steering?
Sloppy slow rack on the Si.
Bad-*** quick as sgit rack on the ITR. Steering is not even close on the two.
That's all just perfromance crap off the top of my head though. There are others like the ITR's interiors being nicer, and looks and **** are always a matter of opinion, so I won't even go there.

I own a 2000 Civic Si and my roommate owns a 2000 Integra Type - R. So I get to drive the two cars back to back all the time. Plus, we go to autocrosses and the track together where I have also driven both cars back to back.
In a way, the Si is a toned down Type R. Drastically toned down!!!
Both cars have AEM CAIs. The Si has Kumho Ecsta 712s, the Integra has Azenis. My Si also has Eibach springs and a Mugen exhaust. Everything else on the Type-R is stock.
Of course we have raced many times. The Si can actually hang with the Type -R until third gear. Then the Type R pulls away. My roommate is still trying to perfect his launch in the Type -R. I thought my Si was loud with the AEM. I was wrong! The Type R is hella loud and ferocious!!! You can hear the car from very far away.
The Type R brakes are about a billion times better than a Si. You've never really experienced good braking in a front wheel drive car until you've braked hard in a Type R. This makes a huge difference on the track. He brakes nearly three car lengths later than I do going into a corner.
The Type R also feels much more solid than the Si. Since the rear sway bar is 23mm versus 13mm (which I will be changing on the Si soon), it is much easier to get some oversteer out of the car. You can sometimes forget you're driving a fwd car in the Type R.
The Type R also has much better seats. The side bolstering keeps you from sliding all over the place unlike the Si. You feel more like you're sitting in the seat of the Type R versus sitting on top of the seat in the Si.
I could go on and on about why a Type R is a better car but it does have its drawbacks. Not to mention that you can upgrade an Si with aftermarket parts but you can do that with a Type R too.
The only problems I have with the Type R is that it is loud. Having all the sound deadening removed makes the R a hard car to drive on long distances. Plus, you get no cruise control which was removed to save weight but the car still has the power radio antenna, hmmmm.
Another problem I have is that I am 6'1". I have problems finding a comfortable driving position, especially when I'm wearing a helmet. The fat wing on the back is also annoying to look at out the back window.
Did I mention that he payed $6000 more for the R than I did for my Si.
