HKS AFR IN '03 CIVIC LX
I was wondering if the HKS AFR is compatible wit the 03 civic lx with an auto trans and if so is it actually worth anything (does it work? and how well?) i have an aem short ram intake and 2.25in custom cat back exhaust and a skunk2 2in drop. im not trying to be all FAST AND FURIOUS just want the car to be a little more fun to drive. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks
wat is an HKS AFR? link?
if you ant your car to be a little more fun to drive invest in some high quality full coilovers and build up the tranny and shifter for a little more sporty feel, then invest in some sticky tires and you should be fine for a while

The only way investing in the drivetrain will actually prove beneficial, will be with a turbo or nitrous. The D17 powertrain isn't one that responds well to bolt-ons. Suspension/Handling and Brake upgrades will benefit the car most, in it's current state. You might want to swap for a 5-speed transmission as well, if you feel that K-swapping is not an option.
I can't legally do a turbo (california), and nitrous will just burn up my engine so those two are out. A k-swap is what i actually want but it's quite a ways down the road since its fairly expensive to do the right way. and i might be wasting time and money but i would like to see what hp i can actually get out of this little d17. you also mentioned something else i was wondering about, i havent searched yet(forgive me) but how tough and pricey is an auto to manual tranny swap and do i need any cpu changes to do it?

I know what an AFR is, and I can assure you that all the bolt-ons in the world won't push that engine much past 125hp, simply due to it's design. Like I stated before, it's been attempted before and proven to fail.
If you'd search on the transmission swap, you'd find the answer, but I'll spare ya' this time. It'll cost around $500 - $1500, depending on who does the labor.

not our cars, as far as i know there are no C.A.R.B. approved turbos or superchargers for the em2. if there are let me know cause i'd love to be able to LEGALLY boost this thing. i know there are legal s/c and turbos for the k motor civic and rsx but those dont apply unless i do the k swap. I must stress that i want to stay legal i dont want my car to be taken by the CHP because of illegal mods. i can deal with having my hood popped occasionally as long as i know i'll still be able to drive it home when they're done messing with me.

Boost+Auto Tranny= bad news. you'll burn out ur auto tranny if u turbo it, it isnt made to handel turbo as well as manual... believe me if turbo on auto worked just as well as maual i would have already done it... so now i have to wait and find a cheap manual or save for a K...

K24A2's are substantially more expensive than A4's or A1's, so you know. Generally the price just for the drivetrain, is in the $3500 range, and you'll still need a transmission, K-Pro, and plenty of other parts to make it work.
