Sohc Vtec or ZC?
I wanted to do a ZC Swap because I heard it is very easy to do but all the terrible things I am hearing about their bad reliability are now making me think twice since reliability is what I like about my car, but lack of power isn't.
A SOHC VTEC engine would be my next choice, and it has the same hp as ZC, about 130hp right?
What would I need for this swap?

Well, the sohc vtec swap is a little more complicated than a ZC swap. First of all, it depends which sohc vtec engine you are going to get. D16Z6=125hp, D16Y8=127hp. To run the engine (either one) correctly, you should convert your engine bay to OBD-I, which isn't too tough. However, you will need a converter harness for the ECU side. I have all the instructions for doing the entire D16Y8 swap, the engine I used. I made my own converter harness too, though you can buy one. For dropping the engine in, there are some issues to address. First, the driver's side mount bracket won't work. You need the one off of your old engine and you have to grind it down so that it doesn't rub on your timing belt. there are other issues as well such as getting the right rad hose, throttle cable bracket, making the AC fit (if you have it, I don't) But basically it's a drop in. IM me if you have more questions. My brother and I did the swap with hand tools, so if we can do it, you can do it.
Tha Zc rocks tha house
I wanted a swap that not too many people had, unlike a B16A. Plus the Y8 was much much cheaper than a B-series, though a ZC would be even cheaper.

i love mine. yea they have like 4hp less than a zc, and like 300 rpms less, a cam less, but they have vtec! in my experience tonight my z6 pulled a little bit stronger than my friends zc. low end and especially top end. once we hit fourth gear i just waved good bye to him. wiring is an issue tho. well worth it if you get the fuel maps right and convert all to OBD-1. i kept up with my friends gst eclipes tonight, all after market turbo crap ( through about mid 3rd gear) . and playing with a 2000 porche caira<sp> for a long time down the highway... i "hung with it " until around 120-130. he was more daring than me when it came to traffic, i just stopped, didn't want to kill myself or others. save it for the drag strip and autoX meets!

right on rexB16!!! get a damn B16 already, and stop playing around with this D series stuff! if i was to pick up another hatch, cheaply, for a nice daily driver, i would put in a single cam vtec, but i wouldn't try to do anything to it.

i would say either motor is gonna be good .. ive never lost to a B16. get the SOHC vtec or the ZC ..both good.. if your goin B series get a B18. or B20. ...
dont worry to much about reliablity of ZC ..mines smokes but the other 7swaps that my uncle did for my friends do not..you can get a bad SOHC just as easy
88std ZC stock..teg ECU. Si tranny
14.7 1/4 ....9.4 1/8 mile

. That's a really good time for a ZC!89_Y_49, don't lie about your decision to get a SOHC VTEC. You wanted the B16 but you couldn't afford it!

Between the Z6 and ZC, I vote ZC. I've said it before, but I have a 91 Si Hatch with a nice 60,000 mile A6 motor. It runs really strong, but doesn't compare to the ZC at all. I also have a ZC in a 91 Si hatch which (before the turbo) is a blast to drive and is perfect for everyday driving. I also have a 92 hatch (just slighty heavier) with a Z6, and its just slightly faster than the A6. Its really not an inspiring motor to drive. It just isn't that fun and doesn't feel that fast. The ZC feels more stout.
I strongly vote ZC over Z6. Its an esier swap, more fun to drive, and looks better under the hood.

Yeah, but that's not the only reason I got a Y8... I also wanted to see how fast I could make a Sohc D-series run. But you're right, I just couldn't afford a B16 when my A6 blew up.

Yeah it only costs about 3 times what the zc does!!

i've got under 2000 in my whole car, including the car, and i can beat 99.3% of the b16 rex's on this board...it doesn't take money or b swaps to be fast, just some thought, and finding the right part for the right price....i think the b16 is a pos...OVERATED!!!...

i wouldnt say it is a crappy motor. but people dont get that D series motors are strong as hell and often with the right mods can take down B seires motors plus you have less weight.....J/K
Better yet, if your A6 bottom end is still in good condition (decent compression numbers) then throw on a Y8 head and Y8 intake manifold. If you don't want to go through the hassle of converting to an OBD-2 (would obd1 work as well?) then just buy a Zdyne one-wire conversion ECU to get the proper V-tec activation (plus extra fuel maps) .
This way your gonna get a nice high compression ratio (approx 11.2:1).
Which equals in tons of torque right off the bat, excellent low end and mid range power (more than zc's, assuming you already have I/H/E done), and great high end power (about equal to a ZC in very good condition). You'll be safe revving the thing up to 7000 rpms.
You'll end up paying more than a ZC, but you'll be able to beat a ZC powered car as well.
SOHC V-Tec is the way to go if you're staying with D series engines.
If your A6 block is tired, then get a Z6 bottom end in good condition. This will lower the compression ratio by around half a point? But still good!
As for the B16, it's just wayyyyy too expensive if you want it done correctly. In my estimates I'd be paying approx $2000 for all of the hardware (complete swap parts, longblock, ecu, axles, new hasport mounts, shift linkage) And then you're gonna be paying another 200 (if not more) for gaskets, belts, hoses, wiring, and fluids. -Too much for me.

the thing is that a b16 rex is onlky faster then a D series rex in 3rd and on. A stock Si with bolt ons can stay with a b16 rex stock into mid 2nd gear......... or untill vtec point
to be 35 hp more than a d16z, and pulling the same times...yup, sounds like a pos
On another note: you definately didn't run a 14.8 with a stock D16Z6, so give the B16A I/H/E and we'll see how much faster it is.

if i was you, id just save and get a b16, i have a 90 hatch SI and i put a zc in it and i have a DC header and AEM CAI and it is ****** slow at hell, one reasoin might becuz my car is so heavy with me in it, i took my car to the dump and weighed it with me in the car it was about 2470 , im tring to sell my ZC swap by the way:
ZC and ZC tranny
dc header
aem cold air
new integra axles
asking 800$ but taking offers
