Swapping an NHBP Si for a TW Nav Si?
Bought an '07 NHBP sedan in August. Love the car. Great bang for the buck. Fun as heck to drive. At the time I really wanted a Nav model but none were available. I also swore for years I'd never own a black car. But I liked the look of the sedan in black. Now I know why I swore off a black car -- I'm too OCD for a black car. And up here in the northeast with road salt for 4 months of the year, it pains me to see the crap on the black and I can't wash it myself during this time.
So I'm thinking crazy thoughts. With only 3500 miles on my '07, I'm considering trading it in for an '08 Taffeta White Nav model. Sedan or coupe, doesn't really matter to me. I prefer the versatility of the sedan. But IMO the sedan looks better in black and the coupe looks better in white. I'm looking at pics on the 8th of taffeta Si's like a mad man here...
The finance part is not a big concern. I financed half of my '07. Yeah, I'd take a bit of a hit on the trade-in. That and the Nav model would boost my monthly payment, but not by too much. Another factor - there are great deals to be had the last week of the year.
Am I crazy? I know it's a bit of a personal decision but let me hear the wise thoughts of the forum! Try and talk me out of it or talk me into it!

See what they offer on the trade in. I am thinking they will only offer you about $15K - $16K. If that is the case, then yep, it's a big hit.
Good luck
Good luck
Here for what its worth....
I went to VanBortel Subaru one of the largest (#2) volume selling Suby dealers in the nation. They offered me $15.5k for my 07 RR Si base w/26k miles sight unseen. I asked if I was getting hit for mileage and they said yeah but only an extra $300. They will probably offer you 16.5k for your car.

Your most likely going to loose at least 3-4k I mean to just have the car look good during the winter I think its a bad move but its up to you
look on ebay and see what they are going for. you would do better privet party people do want SI's. I was thinking about trading my 07 in for an 08. but I don't like TPS because I run a larger wheel 18's and I don't want to see anything on the dash telling me to do something. IM not sure if it's a big problem to correct or not. more stuff more potential for trouble later on. IMO!

Trading in your car for another one just like it only with Navi is not a good idea IMO. You can purchase aftermarket Navigation that's every bit as good if not BETTER than the factory Navigation and save yourself the trouble of going through the trade-in trouble and jacking up your monthly payment. They sell double-din dash kits that fit perfectly just like the factory Navi dash kit would.
Don't do it. Just buy an aftermarket Navigation.

Step 1. Negotiate the best under-invoice price you can on the 08 SI. Make sure they show you the invoice sheet so you know exactly what they paid.
Step 2. If you're happy with it all, let them know you're now planning on trading in a 07 SI. You "Know" what it's worth (what do you want to get for it?) and tell them you want "x" amount.
Don't be an *******. Be nice, polite, professional, and the dealer will do their best.
Remember APR is also negotiable.

Well it wasn't just the Nav, the TW color is desirable too. You guys are probably right though. I'll see what the trade-in value is soon. NADA puts it at 19K. But this time of year, dealers are hurting for sales. They may be incented to work harder for sales the last week of the year. We'll see.

How would you go about trading in your car and not getting raped then? I'd like to know your strategy, RICO.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Well then I guess that part is up to HIM. No matter what trick he tries to play with the dealer they always have one to play right back. There is no "strategy" to avoid getting raped because most likely that's what will end up happening to him. It's just natural for them to try to take advantage of anybody that walks in the door.
So it just depends on which one he wants more. The Navi or a white Si. But I guarantee he will take a bigger hit trading in his car. IMO the OP should have thought more carefully about color choice before making such a big investment.

LoL! Color is subjective and tastes can change thank you very much. I still love the NHBP. It's the sharpest color for the sedan IMO. The TW looks nice too and it requires less maintenance. My instinct was to avoid black. Normally I listen to my gut.
But I won't bend over for any dealer as you like to imply. I'll gladly live with the black car unless a TW Nav model comes along. Fortunately for me, a good buddy is the sales manager at the local Honda dealer so any loss will be minimal. Yes, there are strategy's. And they include networking.

Well hopefully your buddy can hook you up. Either way they need to make their money to....so you'll be taking a hit. But if you really want one.....more power to you. Sooner or later a TW Navi model will come along....it's just a matter of time.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Thanks!
My kids now think I'm officially nuts. My youngest daughter (12) thinks the TW Civic looks like a girl's car. My wife hopes the forum members give me a swift kick in the *** for even entertaining this crazy thought.
Looks like I may need to overcome my OCD issues with NHBP. But I'm still keeping my eyes open!

I'm a car salesman.
Go a few days before the month is over. Go to 4 dealers. Get pricing from all of them and trade in value.
Some dealers will be total expletive faces. But I'm sure you'll be able to find one that will treat you good.
The dealer will offer you a very low trade in value, because that gives them room to work with. If you say no, then they'll bump it up a few hundred, and so on and so on.
Just tell them where you want to be for the trade. If you only financed half of the car then you should NOT be negative in any way. You will get back money which will bring the cost of the TW down, and your payment will balance itself out or at least be pretty damn close.
That's why STEP 1 is to get the BEST PRICE UNDER INVOICE.
Never be afraid of a salesman or a GSM.

So are you suggesting that it's better to finalize the price before discussing the trade-in? As in you shouldn't even mention a trade-in before the price on the new vehicle is finished?

Correct.
Negotiate a GOOD price. Remember, the lower the price of the car, the less negative equity you will have if you ever wanna trade it in (like you are trying to do now..)
Also, remember if you finance through the dealer, they will hit you with what we call a high "pencil." Your payments and down payment will be ridiculously high.
For example (469/month with 4300 down)
Then you tell them where you want to be (350/month, 0 down)
Another good trick is to finalize everything and when you go to 'Finance' which is where you close the deal and sign the contract...start backing out and tell the finance manager ur having second thoughts and u will have to sleep on it...
Dealers HATE that..having gone through all the trouble and time working a deal..only so a customer can say no when they already washed the car, filled it up with gas, and took the stickers off..
So there is when you say.."well, i'd take it right now but the payment is what i'm unsure of" etc etc BS like that
The dealer never believes you so they won't take your word and expect you to come back the next day, so they will try their best to close the deal and have you sign right there on the spot.

If you're going to do this, sell the car on your own instead of trading it in. Then work the best deal you can without the complication of a trade in with the dealer.
You'll get more for your car selling it on your own and you'll be able to negotiate the best deal on the new one w/o being confused by the numbers at closing when you include a trade. Keep it simple.
As for whether you should trade black for white, do what makes you happy.

how would you get confused with the numbers if you include a trade? it's not confusing at all.
Selling it on his own is another option. a dealer will ALWAYS make a low offer on a trade, because you can ask for more so they go low in case they need to up the trade in value.

is it just me or does it sound like you want a white car more than your nlack car now...the nav is easily solved with just getting an aftermarket product and changing around your dash, i thik the real thinng knocking your brain is that you now reember why you dont like black cars.
Personally I would rather have an aftermarket nav in my Civic.
BUT, that's money out of pocket.
He could probably get the TW SI / Nav without paying anything except his monthly payment.
I'm sure he could trade his in with 0 down.
