Default Carsound cat on the Fritz. AHHHHHHHH

Well, for those of you who read about it, My JUN cams were'nt performing up to snuff. Well last night we went to install my Intake manifold (JG Edelbrock, its awesome) and fix the rattle in my cat.

Well we installed the manifold and went to pull off the cat, LO AND BEHOLD the honeycomb material in the Carsound cat had turned itself sideways and broken in half!

We did what I didnt want to do and gutted the cat. Holy *****, the power is back in a big way and there is no longer a dip at all. Plus the intake manifold made a huge differance in peak power.

Needless to say, I am glad I found the source of the problem and I am now off to dyno this beast.

HAHA I KNEW IT WAS THE CAT WHEW WHOOO!!!!!

I have a JUN ECU (A real one, not a JUN programmed p-28) and all of the OBD2 signals are now dead (secondary O2, CAS etc.).

Willard, I did not want to gut the cat, but it was broken and useless the way it was, obviously I want to run a catalytic converter (thats why I have one behind my Hy-Tech. I will purchase another one to replace this one eventually (money) and get a testpipe for off-road. All I am saying is that it flys now and I thought the problem was tuning related and it was'nt.

Yeah it looks like a cat, but I now have this huge expansion area and it has to be hurting performance in some way.

Yes, my POS carsound cat developed a nasty rattle at expo2002. A few days later, driving down the road, the rattle stopped all of a sudden. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the lower cover laying in the street. I stopped the car, Budman jumped out and picked it up. It's been sitting on the shelf ever since. Lousy quality.

Carsound =

I honestly think we should all file complaints with the Better Business Bureau (sp?)

I think Carsound would start to do more about this then...

No idea I wonder if the cats that are breaking are the older Carsound models. I know mine is the older model, I heard the new model is supposedly better.

The new cat that HyTech is going to be using looks solid though. I'll have to see how it does once it goes on my car.

I buddy of mine told me a CL Type S cat would work well with a JDM header. It has big outlets and it supposedly flows pretty well too. Nothing like OEM quality.
Its just a suggestion being that those cats are probably hard to come by.
