i have been needing to replace the timing belt tensioner for a few months now on my wifes 97 hatch, it has the d16y8 motor, i also put a new gates racing timing belt on it (the blue one) and it is making some noise. its not the whining noise like when there to tight but almost a squeking sound, its pretty cold here in ky right now is it possible the belt just needs to warm up and break in maybe. i have never installed a gates racing belt before and just need to know if there a little noisey

Could either be too loose or when you put the new belt on the water pump finally decided to die from the "fresh" belt pressure.

 

i was wandering the same thing about the water pump. it doesnt seem to have much play in it with the tension off but im not sure if there is some minimal play to it if you wiggle the pump sprocket up and down

No wiggle at all. Should be completely tight. Wiggle=bad
