Thinking about getting a chipped ECU from phearable.. couple of questions..
Well I have a 00 civic si, with I/H/E and a CTR intake cam.
I was thinking about getting a chipped ECU and obd2->obd1 harness. I live in Tampa, so John Vega at phearable is very close to me.
My question is, about how much of a gain in HP/TQ will I see from this?
-Will reliability go down at all? This is my DD, and I need it to be reliable
-Will I need to upgrade any parts at all, or can I just plug in the ECU and be on my way?
-Is there anything that can go wrong, or can it cause any damage by changing the ECU?
Thanks

HP/TQ numbers all depends on the tune you get from chipping the ECU. IMO if i were you id get a chipped p28 and have it tuned on crome.... you will notice a difference and will have a more enjoyable experience.
I bought a tuned chip from them for my chipped P28...it was like a night and day difference. Awesome customer service and good prices
what rom editor are you planning on using? what map are you going to get burned on it?
for what setup?
did you just get the .bin off of pgmfi?
if so which one?
ya you can do it yourself, no reliabilty won't go down.
ask more detailed questions becuase i dont know what you are asking........and that makes me not want to help. are you cluless on what it does? what do you need to know?

To be honest with you I don't know much at all.
All I know is that he chips a p28 but I'm not sure with what, or what map he will be using.
When you order it you just put your application and mods, then he does the rest.

Basically all I am wondering is if switching the ECU and converting to an obd1 ecu can mess anything up.. Will it change anything, give me worse gas mileage, or anything else? Will I get any CEL's?
Thanks.

p28 ecu's are not the only ecu's that can be chipped alot of external eprom ecu's can be found. most people here just see that most people tune the p28 and they think that is the only possible soulution.
switching to obd1 will do many things. first it will enable you to modify an ecu, second it will fail smog no matter what, it will also render your datascan port useless.
you will see a reduction in fuel milage becuase he will most likly make it richer.
i looked at that order form and it is unclear to what exactly he is going to do.
i would just go to pgmfi.org and look some things over....and just keep looking.......you're starting at ground zero in a complicated thing to do.............
in fact you could probably make money doing it locally buring chips for an 80 dllar chip burner, and loading basemaps for people that want to go to a dyno session.......with a fe other pen source programns this will be apllicable to DSM guys too
if you need some of the more basic programns that are not avalibe anymore PM me and i will email you the .EXE's and you can look it over and familarize yourself with ROM editors.....play around with it. then read a few webpages and it will begin to make sense

Negative...mine got better, MUCH better.
I went from ~28 in the city to 30 in the city, and from 30 on the highway to 34.

This depends on your setup & how close the basemap we provide is to a full tune (varies from vehicle to vehicle)
Will reliability go down at all? This is my DD, and I need it to be reliable
No reliability will be the same.
Will I need to upgrade any parts at all, or can I just plug in the ECU and be on my way? Plug & go for most setups :-)
Is there anything that can go wrong, or can it cause any damage by changing the ECU? No, the only way you would damage your vehicle is if you over-revved your setup by asking us to put a very high revlimit on your ecu. A lot of customers ask for a revlimit that is uselessly high... What I mean by this is your not making positive power past a certain rpm range etc.
If you have anymore questions feel free to im me, call or email.

No idea...I'm in the dark when it comes to chipping/tuning/etc. I saw one of his banners on the top of H-T, checked it out, did a little background check, and sent him some money.
Glad I did too, it's the best performance mod I've done to my car (minus the GS-R swap)

I've been running a obd-1 ecu chipped from Kenji, though I'm sure Phearable would do the same exact job as Kenji cause they're both reputable. I also have an Si with similar mods.
-Will reliability go down at all? This is my DD, and I need it to be reliable (I've had the ecu for about 6 months and I do pizza deliveries 5 days a week and it still runs strong.)
-Will I need to upgrade any parts at all, or can I just plug in the ECU and be on my way? (Just a obd2b to obd1 jumper harness other than that I didn't need to get anything else.)
-Is there anything that can go wrong, or can it cause any damage by changing the ECU? (My gas mileage hasn't change much at all, although I was running a p28 unchipped for about 1 month plus a fu*ked up jumper harness
So my mileage actually got alot better, correct me if I'm wrong but I think switching to obd1 actually eliminate some sensors, so you shouldn't have any probs with that.)
In the end, your not running a big enough setup to dyno tune though it would be nice. A chipped ecu should be a way to bump up the power of the b16, and trust me you'll feel the difference.
