I have an automatic 95 DX w/ EX motor.
I'm looking to get a second "nice" car with some real muscle but this will remain my DD and I'm lookin to get more power out of it. Some suggested Supercharging, some suggested turbo, some suggested an Automatic GS-R swap.

I'm lookin to get around 200HP out of my setup, nothing crazy. I just want to be able to get more power of this thing because sometimes I feel like a slug on the road.

I'm still fairly new to the import scene so there's some stuff I dunno about these options given to me. Current got CAI/H/E on it.

Anyone have any feedback/suggestions or info about any of these setups. Thanks.

 

Turbo a 92-95 D16Z6. Stay away from 96-00 D16Y# engines they suck IMO, plus they're OBDII. Plenty of plug and play turbo kits out there for the D16.

turbo. you can run 180whp very reliable on a d16, plus you get trq.

It's crazy how often this Q gets asked...</TD></TR></TABLE>I saw this posted a few times when I searched but all were for manual, I heard the turbo lag and outputs are different when dealing with an automatic tranny. Plus I heard some ppl say he tranny from the d16 automatic may not be strong enough for 200hp so I'm just tryna see what experiences are there for those who have done it.

 

Yeah turbo+auto trans=not that great. Why not just get a 92-95 EX or Si 5-speed and turbo that?

 

yeah, get a fresh start if you want to get power. start with a 5spd.

 

I didnt wanna do a auto to manual conversion because of all the negative things I've been hearing about how many parts are needed and labor costs of doing it. I'm no mechanic nor do I have any kinda place or tools to do it myself. How much would it run me to get that and what are the chances everything will go smoothly, I'd hate to be out of a car for work because I wanted to be cool and change my tranny. I'm just lookin for some additional highway muscle. I dont mind it staying automatic.

 

uh... 200hp on a daily driver = shotty gas mileage.

 

Sell your current car, unless you have some type of undying love for your 95 DX auto.

 

Selling isnt an option. Car has sentimental value more than anything else, it's something I plan on keeping in the family, I would resurrect from the dead even if it got totalled.. Plus I'm not really looking for the money of selling it. I just want to know some information.

you sir dont know ****. there are hundreds of ppl daily driving 200hp cars or even more getting 200+ miles to a tank. its your heavy foot that will get you less gas milage.


i had a 217 hp all motor ls vtec in a hatch, still got 220 miles to a tank. running 12.4s on the track. so you tell me

 

Your automatic tranny will hold you back.

 

Eh, aiming 200hp is kind of too high. I mean, the D series can handle it, but your tranny? If you want some pep, bolt on a turbo kit. Someone on here is selling one for a D16y7, going at $800. Just don't boost too high l0l.

your tranny won't hold 200hp very long.

and if this is your daily driver you really don't want to turbo it on an auto tranny.

so how about doing more research and finding a realistic goal?

 

There have been a few helpful posts here, but like the others that stated it...the tranny will be your limiting factor and will tend to go out with slipping when nearing 200hp. The Z6 will hold 230 easy on stock everything (with a good tune of course).

For a everyday driver turbo on auto can be bad, stress wise, performance wise automatic transmissions and Turbos are very compatible. If you like straight line racing that is. On the drag strip or freeway a automatic trans retains boost that u loose while shifting, its a more consistant and flawless powerband. But without a durable trans your gonna burn it out real fast. I'd recommend a trans cooler if you turbo.

single cam with auto tranny and 200hp. it wont last long and plus money $$$$ needed to make this work

 

first off, how much $$$ are you looking to spend? going turbo wont do much since your looking to keep your auto. I'd say your best bet would be to throw in a GSR/ITR motor and call it day.

 

This isn't going to happen. Throw an h22 in there and be happy.

you ever think about auto + turbo equals no lag between gears because the turbo will stay spooled??

the only trouble with aut turbo is a good way to tune - your kinda stuck with piggy back systems

Yeah, I should have said turbo+auto trans=questionable reliability for a DD.

 

Save yourself the trouble and keep it the way it is. I/H/E is all you need. Enjoy it as a DD and save up for a manual or something better.
