Default Wierd gas guage, and...

Okay so last night I needed some gas, the guage was about 3 blips from E. I put $25 in, or about 8.3 gallons. This brought me up to about 4 blips from full. I've gone maybe... 40-50 miles since then and I'm almost back down to half. If I was almost empty but only got a little over 8 gallons in it, where the hell is the other 5 gallons? Do these things just sit at full for a while once you fill them up?

Anyways, my next question, I seem to be getting really poor gas mileage, but I have been chalking it up to the bad clutch. Besides that, is there anything else that could be causing considerably less gas mileage? ( I haven't even taken this car over 5k rpm yet so I'm not driving it hard on a near dead clutch).

Car only has 50k miles.

The top half of the gauge is pretty heavy. Bottom half goes by quick. Calculate your mpg and let us know. Have you changed the oil yet? Not revelant to the mpg problem but just curious. Most people buy a used car and dont bother doing any maintenance...

I plan to change it soon, but they apparently changed it not long ago according to the sticker in the window. Either way I will be switching to mobil 1 synthetic.

Don't rely on the gauge. Figure out your average range per tank and get gas 10 or 20 miles before you hit that point.

I drive a ep3 so it might be slightly different, but i figured out that normally every little "blip" is about 10 miles. i put 9.5-10 gallons in each tank and get about 290 to the tank

WTF? 290 a tank? I'm no longer boosted and all i can pull is 240-250. I drive 80 everywere so that might be part of it but damn.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by EP3 FTW &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I drive a ep3 so it might be slightly different, but i figured out that normally every little "blip" is about 10 miles. i put 9.5-10 gallons in each tank and get about 290 to the tank</TD></TR></TABLE>

I'm running the "high octane tune" from hondata right now and that's all i'm getting. I'm sure if i drove around 60-65mph i'd get better but holly hell life sux.

BTW...The top half goes slow 'till it hits the half tank point..then it goes quick... I hate that...my S10 does the same thing.

Yeah mine always stays at the top for quite a while, then drops off real fast, haha.
