If the engine doesnt go in 6 months or so (which it probably wont) I want to rebuild it anyway with bigger pistons, valve springs, cams etc.

What all is usually replaced when doing a "rebuild"?

I'm getting a GSR motor for my Eg and just interested in the price to rebuild the motor. Say using your best bang for the buck parts.

Does 2 grand sound about right? $1,500? $2,500?

I ask because it seems like I am not going to find an OBD1 or 2 motor with less than 70k on it.......

Well for the budget performance oriented rebuild I'd suggest higher comp. pistons(w/ rings of course), ACL or OEM bearings(crank, rod, & thrust washers), new oil pump, new water pump, timing belt(better to be safe), then go with some more aggressive cams, springs, & retainers. That stuff would run you around $1500ish. Naturally I/H/E, fuel upgrades, computers(Hondata) and several other things would be nice but this is a decent way to spend $1500ish and should guarantee smooth operation regardless of the engine's past history.

Now if you wanted to do a bit more, then immediately send the block to golden eagle. Have it sleeved to 84.5mm and get some sexy forged pistons...they push Arias which is good, also there's Wiseco to like on. My block goes to GE on Monday
