Please!!! I need help with my SI decision...
I have a 00 civic si. I would like to go as light as possible on the engine. I read about the gsr and how expensive it is. I have read about the "poor man r-type". I have read about turbo, and the complacations. I read something about a b16 head and a b20 bottom. I read about the b16b, and the b18c5. I would like work with what i have stock, and then prepare for graduation to the best motor for the 00 civic si. I know I can get my stock motor bored over time also. As of right now, I'm leaning more towards all motor due to the fact of messing up the motor with turbo. But then weight becomes and issue. Please i need insight!
i never heard anything about that... i kinda think it doesn't make sense, but i need to marinate on that for a second.
The best bang for your buck is definitely turbo. You will spend just as much on an all out all motor build, and it will be just as unreliable as a well planned out turbo kit and a mild motor build.
Either way you decide to go (because I've had several turbo setups and now I have an all motor GSR EK hatch), my best advice is to spend the money once and do it right....Don't cheap out and buy junk parts.

If your still in school and on a budget then I would definately lean toward the B16A2 already in your car. Thats a perfect platform to start with. I mean, 00 SI thats whats ur rockn right? If interior is not of any concern then gut the car out and go for all-motor like you said.

It's pretty obvious that you know nothing. Read some threads in the all-motor forum and the forced induction forum before you determine what's best. It's laughable that you consider yourself qualified to judge a turbo setup as dangerous but then say you want to be light on the motor and put huge cams and pistons in it.
Whether you go all-motor (super *** expensive on a B16) or turbo (much more doable with much better results), you have to get your car tuned by a professional. A properly tuned turbo setup will be safe and user friendly for years and years. 50,000 miles is not unheard of. All-motor is prohibitively expensive - especially for you since you won't be doing any of the work yourself - and nets much less hp/$.

Welcome.
First let me say thank you 2 those who read and respond. Second, i am not tryin 2 pass myself off as a honda expert, or someone who knows about hondas. the si is my first honda. im just tryin 2 learn. all i have been doing is reading with all of the spare time i get. hours and hours of reading.there is only 24 hrs. in a day, i can only read so much in one day. i wanna to research as much as i can b4 i make any move.
Now, i didnt say turbo was dangerous. i said their are complacations. there are so many out there who put turbos in, and blew up the motor on numberous occacions. only to end up wit something thats all-motor. thats where i have gotten my judgement. but at the same time, i have not ruled out a turbo. i have not made any decision yet.
yes, i would like to go as light as i can on the motor. i didnt say i wanted to put huge cams and pistons in. i simply spoke on what i read about what i can do wit me car. also if i was to go all-motor, i would not do that wit a b16. today i was reading about the k20 swap. as far as turbo was thinkin about a b18b. but i am having a hard time deciding what direction to go. money is not the issue. i want to work with the b16a2, while i prepare for that better motor.
