Default Is there money to be made buying a Del Sol shell?

My buddy has a black 97 Del Sol shell for sale (don't know trim level, probably not an Si). No/shaved inner headlights and body is near perfect (minor quarter panel rust I would fix), steelies (which are already mine lol). It has 136,000 miles, skunk2 sleeveovers and 92 prelude Si seats ( ). It has a DCRH and greddy catback (he wants to part before selling me the shell). What should I offer him after pulling the motor for him? (I've seen Del Sol shells sell from free - $1200)

I have all the tools I would need to fix any flaws and repaint if I had to. My plan is to buy it, throw on some OEM wheels, fix it up, swap an engine and sell it as stock as possible (also doing this with a 92 cx and an 89 crx si but I already have both). Is there any money to be made doing this? How much would a nearly stock mint 97 Del Sol with a clean swap sell for? Should I swap a b16 in or just a z6?

Okay, if I buy it.

So what do you guys think? Should I buy this shell or save the ~$2000 I'd be putting into it (if I need to repaint).

You ship it for $5 and I'll buy it now but seriously, I'm not going back to the shithole factory again this summer and I want to make money "restoring cars." I know I will off my other two cars because they are complete and only need body work but I don't know what a clean 97 Del Sol would sell for... Like I said, I estimate I'd be putting about $2000 into it.

After YOU pull the motor, I'd say $300-$500...nothing over that (assuming everything's in good condition...pics help ).

No, it's a shell. The motor/trans/motor/etc are all out now (I didn't need to help).

it appears most people missed the point of your question.

yes there is money to be made, but the difference with the sol's is that you're better off holding off on trying to sell it until spring or summer. they sell low in the winter but during the spring/summer people are willing to pay way to much. do a search and you'll see how the price can fluctuate, that will also give you a ball park of what they're worth with different swaps.

Yeah, I'll be fixing/selling all my cars in the summer. Hopefully I'll have 4 clean Hondas for sale then. Hello 06 STi.

Would I be able to get ~$3500 for a minty 97 Del Sol with a d16z6 in early summer?

it all depends on the area, but it is possible. some people will pay anything, i've seen stock s coupes with wheels sell for more than b series sols. as long as you have it listed early you've got a good shot.

More than likely he's talking about a decent downpayment...let's say he gets 2,500 for each, that's a $10,000 downpayment, or a little under 1/3 of an Sti (maybe even less since he's not buying it brand new)

Want my formulas?

CRX + EG + (EP - Loan balance) + Sol = (1/2) STi
Cash + (1/2) STi = (3/4) STi
(3/4) STi + Loan = STi + interest

I'm going to try getting pictures of the Sol Sunday. I'll post them up and see what you guys say it's worth.
