First off I've been reading the P&B forum for awhile now and seen some beautiful at home paint jobs. I've been wanting to due my own paintjob for awhile now and a lot of people have told me not to, but others encouraged me to go for it and practice makes perfect.
I will be getting some of my painting equipment over the course of a few month but I already have a 30 gal air compressor and lines. I know i will be needing a gun and all the other stuff and thats what I have questions about.
First off the process. I will have to sand down the car with about 400 grit or so, degrease, tape off, body work, sand, wash, degrease, primer or base, wetsand, clear wetsand?
I've been searching around trying to find the whole process but its a PITA.
also can anyone tell me what products i will need. i've been searching and found brand names and names like DP225, but can anyone give me general descriptions, like reducer + harder or whatever.
I have a few hoods i will be practicing on before any car. I got my Gs300 painted at Earl Shieb and they did a pretty shitty job for 500.

haha home paint jobs for the win i will be doing one next summer with my princess auto automotive tent the compressor will be fully filtered from oil/water and painted outside with 3 separate guns for each process...nice summer days
30 gallons should be enough to just pass the minimum capacity im aiming for a 50 galllon...with a quality filtering system for clean fresh air
i will be using pro form urethane 1K surface primer its ideal for scratches from sanding adhesion is superb if preped nicely its a 4:1 ratio for the reducer with this primer there will 4 coats of primer laid down for the entire vehicle...
cant wait to do this it will be amazing to see how it comes out as a backyard project good luck on your project as well
good luck on yours as well lets keep this thread alive dammit...lol

theres a company down the street that specializes in pneumatic/hydraulic applications they have many types of filtration setups
the tent option is there but the ground out side will need to be wet or tarped off with plastic for the overspray stick down it will be ventilated with fans and such hehe...
ive seen this down in some **** *** garages coming out quite nice actually...lol
quality will depend on 3 main factors for painting
-gun setup with appropriate hardware(nozzle size, air/paint ratio settings, movement)
-air cleanliness(utmost importance)
-overspray prevention
i hope this helped a little bit im going to have several practice pieces to play around before hand so we ll see how it goes in the summer
