Do you guys feel the need to have rear speakers or do you believe in placeing plenty amount of rms power to the front and have no rear speakers at all?

It's your preference. For audio imaging it's recommended to have the primary drivers up front and rear are only to fill in but it all depends on your audio imaging preference. If you don't have rear speakers you'll just have an audio void that for some is annoying.

Agree on the rears as fill-ins. My rears are way too strong for the rear passengers cause it's right above their ears. So I often have to turn the rear down.

But since I drive solo or just with a front passenger, I tend to turn the rears up a bit higher to balance the sound from the front seat perspective. Also, I use my rears to capture the mid and low mid notes. I like it, since I already spent the $$$.

If you don't got the $$$$ for good rears, then min your expenses there in the overall system by getting some cheapies or stock.

I still undecided wether I should put in 100 plus dollars for some speakers or should I just put in my shitty speakers in the rear and hook my amplifier exclusively up to the front speakers. I problely will see how I like it with shitty speakers hooked up to my deck at first and see how that goes thanx guys

IMO it's pretty clear cut....when you go to a concert or live performance...is there one band infront of you, and another behind you? Probably not. Every performance I've been to, I face a stage of performers...placing drivers behind you is very similar to adding additional performers behind you.

Some people say it adds a fill/surround effect...if you properly setup your audio system, you will get adequate ambience from just a right and left channel located infront of you.

The job of any audio system is to acurately reproduce a recorded performance - live, studio, digital or otherwise. Unless the artist intended rears to be included, they shouldn't be there.

I'm sure someone will chime in about the development of and gaining popularity of 5.1 surround setups, but personally I think it's a crock.

The ideal audio system has two drivers that play from 20Hz to 20kHz...that's it.

The dominance of rear speakers....probably because of two reasons:
1. The rear deck is a convenient place to put larger speakers. 6x9's were the only ways to get bass a few short years ago...thankfully, things have changed.
2. Rear passengers gotta listen to something.

Personally, I leave what ever stock speakers are back there, and use them only for situations when rear passengers want a listen...and that's fairly rare. Past that, they don't play a thing. Then again, I'm an SQ guy at heart, and am pretty finiky about imaging, staging, etc.

I agree that the system should have a stronger sound presence in the front. The car I just got rid of had no mids/highs running in the rear, only 3-ways in the doors and subs in the trunk. Now that I've traded the '97 Civic sedan for a '99 Integra GS I'm rethinking what I'll do with the afternarket equipment I pulled from the old car.

Since the Integra has stock locations in the door for seperates (mid-woofer and tweets) I'm considering placing the 6.5" 3-ways in the rear and buying a component set for the doors. Of course, this will likely mean I'll need to purchase an additional amp as well.

The setup I pulled from the Civic is really a pretty low-cost, low-end system. Stepping up to multiple amps and more speakers will probably take some time since all my money went into purchasing the new car. I may just install the system as-is and put money into an alarm. I'd like to have an alarm and keyless entry before I sink a bunch of money into the stereo.
