Default Fog Lights On My Del Sol

Been meaning to install these for a while, but finally got a chance this weekend.

Fitting and testing:

Mounted on the car (couldn't get that great of pics since I was cramped in the garage)

Used to have a big FMIC when I had a B series turbo.

Got rid of it when I went K and NA.

heh, looks like those little $30 Pilot fogs my buddy used to have on his old Prelude.

My question, though, is how did you mount them? My concern with mounting to the bumper like that is that the bumper probably isn't that rigid, and you'll end up with vibrating lights as you drive down the road. If there's one thing I can't stand is lights on the front of a car vibrating. It's annoying as hell.

That's why I mounted my fogs to the bottom of my bumper support beam. Extremely strong and rigid mounting.

Hehe. I bought those cheap fog lights years ago because I thought the elliptical shape fit the shape of the fog light holes in my bumper. I really wanted some PIAA 1000s, but never found them cheap enough, so I'm still looking. Recently I tested the fogs by hooking them up to a battery and was impressed by the bright yellow color, so I decided to finally mount them, for now until I can get those PIAAs.

I made a "ghetto" bracket with stuff I found around the garage. I'm not proud of it, but its mainly held on with 3M double sided tape, that I heated up with a heat gone to ensure it would be sticky. The mounting looked pretty strong and secure though. Worse comes to worse, I did a hack job and they fall off and I lose a $15 set of fogs.

Honestly, I haven't even the driven the car with the fogs yet because of the weather outside. My main concern was the fogs falling off, specially at the race track with wheel hop etc. (but I have a race bumper I can slap on for the track). Now, I'll have to be concerned with vibration as well. Hopefully I won't drive me crazy. hehe

I agree mounting to the bumper support would be ideal, but I got rid of my bumper support to fit the bumper in the first place. (got rid of the rear support too to save weight). The only way I could mount it to the body would be to make a HUGE braket from the rad support.

I had a set of 1400s and a set of 1200s on my first truck back in 1998. The Ion Crystal lenses fascinated me, and I was really interested in auxiliary lighting.

I miss those PIAAs.

I was looking into the 1200s too and for the longest time I wanted 1100x's. You're right, the ion crystals look rather appealing. Now, I figure 1000s or 1100s are better for me and a bit less expensive...

Just took the Del Sol out for a quick ride and finally got to see how the fogs look. The lights look FANTASTIC. Light up the whole road. Not 5 min after I left my house I already got flashed by another car cause mine were too bright.

The oncoming car was coming over a hill at the time and I think he was just "surprised" when I reached the top rather than "blinded". After that incident, no one else flashed me. If anything it was probably my headlights (Raybrig 3900ks) rather than the fogs...

I've just been searching on eBay. I see a couple come on every once in a while. They probably go for $100-150. I'm too cheap and want to pay <$100 . Here's one listing that I got the pic from. Way too much money though.

i like them a lot. got them for cheap and just installed them the same day i took those pics ^^^

a. nice flush look
b. locking for added security
c. won't fly off like my old hood pins did cause built a lot better/stronger not to mention they look a lot better too
d. mad jdm yo..haha...(top secret uses them on all their cars)

takes some skill and patience to install (even more with your CF hood since you don't want to mess it up. I didn't care with my hood cause it was already hacked)
but with the right tools and a couple of hours, its NBD

i recommend getting them, specially since they will match your CF hood better than with my white hood (people keep telling me i should spray them white, but i kind of like how they stick out)

some close up pics (you can still see my new bulbs ):

yea i also have a black(ish) glass top and CF rear garnish, so I have a few black pieces on my del sol for the "panda" look. hehe

i got a great deal on my set on eBay

you can still buy them now on eBay for 95-100 with locks and 85-90 without

they also make some knock offs on eBay for around $70 shipped
lmk if you're looking for a cheaper solution and i can send you the links.
otherwise just search for Aerocatch, and you'll find the real ones.

That is a sick Sol I'm an oem guy myself, never one to like body kits, but I have to respect mugen becuase they're kits aren't ricey. Looks great! Nice swap by the way. You gotta be running 12's maybe 11's if you can hook up before third gear. Mad props.
