i need a little more b20 advice
ive been reading aloooooottttt of b20 topics and im pretty impressed with the motor's feedback. i got tired of my crx and its problems so i bought a 94 2 door coupe DX yesterday. my first order of business is to get my motor. from what ive read, the b20 is preffered over the b16. i was thinking of doing the b20/vtec swap, but that adds up to a lot of $$$$, which i dont have.
what kind of 1/4 times would i expect if i ran on falkon tires, skunk manifold and i/h/e with the stock b20 motor???
and if i do decide to go with the b20/vtec, do i have to get aftermarket pistons? from what ive read i do because of the valve clearances.
and last, is there any website that gives step by step swapover information for the b20 in a 5th gen civic? TIA

with a GSR tranny and a B20 in a 92-95 civic you can run about 14.5-15 1/4mile.
check:
http://www.c-speedracing.com/
it has step by step how to swap a B18C(all B series are almost the same).
I think with the B20B you don't have to change the pistons for a vtec head but the B20Z has flat top pistons, so you can either modify the valve reliefs or get some new pistons.

its 90% driver
one guy could run a flat 14
someone else could run a high 15.

i think you are drawing a long bow there KAMiN!
you'd have to miss a change or smoke 'em on the greens to lose a second in an identical car on an identical day.
yeah, actually point taken - it IS the driver - not the set up!!!
but anyways, the point is that it's hard to generalise about set-ups and 1/4 potential...
but a safe bet would be 14's to 16's!!!
im hoping for mid 14s from my B20VTEC in a 2200lbs chassis that pulls easy 16's and some ball-tearing high 15's at the moment...

ive been through that website and i learned a lot, but i really didnt get all the info i needed. it gives alll the specs on the b20, but more info on the b20/vtec set up. half the **** on there i dont really understand...im still not at that level. all im trying to learn is if i would have a fast car with a jdm b20, or if i should save up, wait about 3 months and do the frankenstien setup. ill be happpy with mid 13's on street tires. but im not sure what kind of work i would need to do on the motor without slapping on a Vtec head/turbo/NO2.
sorry about this guys. i just lost my other car, so im trying to rebound by going down a different path. TIA

heres some dyno's of B20's and some other cars:

assuming theres no vtec head, but with GSR tanny:
-ok....b20z vs JDM b20b. does it have the same power? from what ive been reading, yes. but from what ive been told no. most of the dyno charts are produced power from a b20z. whats the difference?
-another thing i noticed from the dyno charts is that these motors have the jdm itr header. i thought that the ports on the ITR header do not match the head portsof the b20. whats the deal?
-SKUNK manifold. will it help or hurt? the manifold only produces top end, which the b20's do not have, right?
last thing....where is the peak point for this motor? it redlines at about 6200 i believe. but does it still have power up to 7k, or is it lost by the time it gets there?
TIA

The JDM ITR header fits, as does any of the other B series headers.
The engine peaks just over 6k, in stock form.
The Skunk2 manifold won't really help with some nice cams. Just go with the LS intake manifold for now.

stock jdm b20 w/gsr tranny will get you mid-low 15's,
and maybe touching a high 14 depending on chasis/driver.
power peaks out around 6-6500.
most of it is in the mid range.
your not going to be the fastest on the street,
but you'll sure surprise alot of people out of the whole.
i say go for it.
you'll love the motor and tranny combo.
i know i do
