Default autox my first time in my first si

ive finally decided to get into gear and learn how to drive my car the real way. im going to start out here in jerz in the stadium in march. i loved slammed cars. my question is what would be a good drop on a em1 from its stock suspension for optimal handling as opossed to looks?

Stock. Seriously, start there. You're probably going to here the same thing repeated about 50 times...

meadowlands events with motorsports northeast? i'll see you there most likely (tall black guy, ugly white ef with lo-buk on the side)
as for what u need, if you want to realy learn leave it stock. you wont get put into a class you cant keep up in and you will learn a heck of a lot on stock sus.

i started auto-X in my stock 98 civic DX, went to STS, then FSP then SM and now its XP. I can drive the crap out of that car. I flop around like a rag doll in the stock 86CRX and it goes from bumpstop to bumpstop but that doesnt stop me from getting FTD in it

If you wanna learn to drive drop the rice boy fantasies. Keep your car stock. Learn to drive.

Believe me, your car will handle much better than you can drive it. Lowering it will only complicate matters and there's a 75% likelyhood that you'll make handling worse.

the single best thing you can do is leave the car stock, and get another set of stock wheels with R comps mounted to them. Leave it stock, listen to what everyone is telling you, or just don't bother posting asking what to do...

Like everyone else, I'd leave it stock for now if you're talking about what's best for autocrossing / learning how to handle you car at it's edge.

Before you do anything to the car, learn how it would impact your vehicle's classification, although that's not too much of a concern in the beginning.

O.k., o.k., you love slammed cars, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as you understand most of those slammed cars' handling was made worse because of the mod they did (not done properly, or even close). So how can you accomplish what you're after? Actually, what is it that you're after? Sounds like you want something that looks cool (lowered) and want begin autocrossing. What do you care about most? How much of a budget do you have to spend? (Not much, some, or cha-ching) Lower profile tires on your street rims could give you that lowered effect, smaller rim size, and other potential options to get you what you want.

Sorry guys, I just spent two days with my niece who wants a cool $200 cell phone becaz. Like her current cell phone doesn't accept text messages just fine.

stock

its hard not to lower the car but u'll learn so much more and i guarantee u'll appreciate a good aftermarket suspension alot more later on. speaking of which, running ur car stock will also point u in the right direction for suspension tunning. u'll learn about ur driving habits and know how u want ur car to handle. making choosing spring rates and shocks much easier. in the end u'll be much happier.

BUT, if slam u want, slam ahead. just expect to go thru a couple suspensions and kicking urself in the nuts later

Well as a fellow em1 autox'r i would agree that you should leave it stock, at least for the first few races, learn how it handles and go from there.

i lowered my car and then decided to track it, so i went to a completely different setup and ended up wasting about $600.

i see what everyone i sayting now.

first drive on the stock suspension. then upgrade to a suspension set-up that i will benefit from as opposed going for " looks". thanx fellas for opening upmy eyes and saving me money. do you guys recommend any extra suspension pieces that i should add to enhance handling such as a lower tie bar or a rear strut bar...etc?

Did you even read what everyone just said? LEAVE IT STOCK.

I might see you out there too at the meadowlands. Fun courses and lots of runs.

I also say keep it stock. I ran my EM1 for a couple seasons stock then jumped into STS. I will always say the car is ALWAYS faster than the driver. It's the driver that has to catch up to the car. Putting mods on it just makes it that much more to learn to catch up to.

i wouldnt worry about adding anything to the car. do some events and spend money on....more events. youll find its more fun to drive as much as you can than it is to work on the car.

well i was running a 22mm itr sway/asr subframe brace before i decided to get into track events.

i jumped into SM, one of the more competitive classes in my area just because of that mod. its still fun but i know i will never get 1st in class.

SM is a brutal class...There needs to be a provision made for the Civics running that ASR brace...most run it simply because of sub frame tear out worries...The other performance increases are marginal compared to the safety of running that with a larger bar...That rule simply pisses me off...those EF Si's have no such worries, and can really run a big bar without any problem...

yeah it sure is, in SM, because it "triangulates the subframe" which is total BS.

I completely agree because it is becoming a really common modification. I really wasn't certain the beaks kit would prevent tear out so i stepped up to the ASR.

and i get my runs handed to me by cobra's on R comp's every sunday
